Hello,

I had a warning light coming on on my mini. It is the steering lock one. Quite common according to the internet.

The steering itself works fine. After doing some reading I replaced the battery which I hope to be the source of the problem, but the light is still there. Other people had the same issue ended up spending thousands changing the steering column, but I am researching online and there seems to be a fix using the above software. Reset the CAS and ELV.

I took it to a garage that does bimmers and they said they dont know what I am on about and they suggested I should do a software update that MAYBE will fix it. They wanted £200 for it. I walked away.

I created this thread in the hope that any of you guys and girls might know what all this means as I am only going from what I read online. Anyone with access to this software that could help me out or can suggest someone who could?

Thanks!

Check the alternator is charging correctly. Alternators on the Mini range give a lot of trouble and can give this warning light issue. They can also seize and make the engine impossible to crank, leading to people thinking the engine has seized. At auction these make excellent buys ;) I love `em... The light is actually part of the alarm system. Crazy idea, the right software should diagnose it fully and reset it. I think Google / YouTube will tell you a lot. Sell it when it's fixed, before something else goes wrong ;) I don't THINK my Bosch software will do what you need, I'll try and remember to look though.

Hi Chris! Thanks for your reply! I only noticed it now.

That's the plan. I am selling as soon as I get rid of the light.

I had a go doing it myself. I have the software and got a cable from amazon but there is something wrong with the cable I think. I looked online and it is very common that you have to solder two of the pins together for some models so I will try that this weekend. I hope it works as I had enough. Want to replace it for something different.
