hemmjonny
I have been looking everywhere for a clean boot as I was told by a few people it was not worth saving mine. Anyway a nice chap at Kernow Infernos in Cornwall said he could fix it so it went in last week and he has just sent me some pics [emoji16] Over the moon I now have a rust free boot. rider
I did hear Ed China was looking for some work. Takes special skill to cut in new metal seamlessly onto a curve.

AndyJax
I had mine done about six years ago and I was lucky enough it was only surface rust even though it had bubbled quite badly so it was only a matter of grinding the rust back and repainting. Anyone like to hazard a guess why it seems to happen in the same spot on most Supra tailgates, design fault perhaps ?

Water sits on the contoured part, Cold nights + water over time will just 'eat' away at the paint microscopically over time leading to that kind of rust
samdale
Anyone like to hazard a guess why it seems to happen in the same spot on most Supra tailgates, design fault perhaps ? Mine seems to trap water under the seal. Can go to it a day or so after its rained, car bone dry. Lift the edge of the seal with a finger nail and water dribbles out. Wonder if you could add a liquid sealant under the seal to fill that gap so water can't sit beneath it??
rider
Mine seems to trap water under the seal. You shouldn't see any water pooling under the seal if it is sealed properly. If I were you I'd think about having the glass taken out to first up check the state of the metalwork and then replace the seal.
