ben_harmer32
TT auto, have you driven one? The auto boxes are awesome and you can always put it in manual mode
Scooter
NA manual possibly around £6-7K and then a TT engine £3-4K will put you in a car to all intents and purposes the same as a STOCK TT6. The problems you'll have are sourcing a decent TT engine, then not getting carried away and tuning it and then destroying your 5 speed. Scooter
Or go TT auto and then look for a 5 speed gearbox (or grow to love the auto) Or go NA 5 speed and fit a cheap low boost turbo kit (again watch that power!)

moonstone
im manual through and through the auto box is not good even in manual mode.fact the price of 6 speeds puts me off so id go with your option 1 I'm manual through and through for any car, however something tells me you've never driven an TT auto... The A340e is a very good transmission. Shifts smooth, good gear ratio's and is really up to it's task for touring and spirited driving (up to a point ofcourse). Before I bought my TT A/T I was only looking for the 6spd, as all my other cars were always manual cars as well. But after driving a TT A/T for more than a hour it completely changed my mind. Do I prefer a 6spd? Probably yes. But the a340e is very, very well suited for the MKIV.
Frank Bullitt
Why's your hate towards the auto so strong? Jheez....Probably because they are quicker but there is less "driver involvement"
Scooter
Why's your hate towards the auto so strong? Jheez.... It's not really hate, it's that I think he can't live with tiny few things the auto robs you of. It certainly is good for an auto and amazing (IMO) for an auto of that age. Hitbox Junkie
Go with a tt auto (it suits the supra, wish mine was a auto sometimes for ease of life). then when funds are available go for a 6speed or a alternative manual box as there seem to be some good adaptor kits available. I agree with what Ant has said above! Theres times I stayed auto and went built box instead of 6 speed, but back then it was all about future proofing. To the OP - if you get the chance go out in a TT auto, you won't be disappointed as they are a great box and the kick down you get is awesome! elkerimo
I have a budget of around 12-14k also VVTi or non VVTi?
Frank Bullitt
Having the option, I would go VVTi every time as there are no longer any downsides with regards to tuning. Top end of your budget would get you a nice automatic example; http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?342977-1996-Facelift-TT-BPU-Unique-TwinZ-Kit-Immaculate and http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?343946-1993-Supra-TT-BPU-Auto
Scooter
Vvti's can have throttle issues, but have a torqier mid range, also can have 4th gear kick down issues, but I wouldn't worry too much either way just find a good clean car.
