Tsia
Or when you're sat in traffic. You can just let it dawdle through for you.
Richie_k83
Be great for coming home from the pub with a few beers on board Would you not technically be Drunk in Charge of a Motor Vehicle though? lol
el_bandido
Would you not technically be Drunk in Charge of a Motor Vehicle though? lol Yes, you would. This is why cars with this technology will state (at least for now) that a qualified driver must be in the driver's seat. Until the liability is sat with the manufacturer for autonomous driving, you will be liable for being drunk at the wheel. You will also be expected to intervene should anything go wrong. Dnk
Would you not technically be Drunk in Charge of a Motor Vehicle though? lol Depends how far down the road we get with them i guess but in the early days i'd imagine you'd still be as you say technically DUI In years to come and the car is 100% driving everywhere without any input then your just a passenger, that's a few years off though yet
Wez
The problem with automation is us, we are too unpredictable, in a fully autonomous environment it would be great, I think we will first see things like autonomous motorway lanes etc. Other issues include a no win situation, an accident is going to happen and the options are an elderly man, a women with a push chair and the occupant of the vehicle, what choice does the AI make, does the user have the option to configure themselves as the highest weighted human, therefore saving yourself is a priority etc. All very interesting though. el_bandido
on the plus side, when the majority of cars are autonomous but you're still allowed to drive manual cars, you can do whatever you want on the motorway and autonomous cars will simply move out of the way. Wez
on the plus side, when the majority of cars are autonomous but you're still allowed to drive manual cars, you can do whatever you want on the motorway and autonomous cars will simply move out of the way. If it ever gets to that stage you will likely find that automation is enabled when you enter / join a motorway and manual cars would not be permitted access, precisely for reasons like the one you mention This could actually lead to quicker journeys as a fully automated motorway could in theory run at much greater speeds safely than manual or mixed. el_bandido
The road network is too dependent on motorways to stop people getting on them. It's more likely new roads will be built with automated cars in mind; I'd imagine the lane widths could be a lot narrower and you'd probably have some smart technology involved in the road too.
