Replacing windscreens

Recommended Posts

So, just curious really as seen some people selling their windscreen and wondered why buyers wouldn't just go through insurance.

I'm in for respray, windscreen got damaged before it went in so now I have no screen at all. Do insurance still replace if the cars in total bits etc? Not sure their policy or general thoughts on that.

Was hoping an excess fee would cover the cost, instead of purchasing second hand.

Usually find your local one man windscreen fitter will supply and fit way cheaper than anyone else, or go through your insurance

I did on my RRC but that turned into a long drawn out drama due to the dickheads my insurance company used who hadn't got a clue, i ended up

with a cheque from my insurance to cover doing the job again but with a company of my choosing

I'm going for OEM for the following reasons:

1) Local Toyota dealer price was only £265, so cheaper option.

2) No need to add wires, button and relay that you would need for a heated screen.

3) If it's cold enough out to need a heated screen then I'd not be using the Supra anyway.

I'd be finding a local independent glazier, i was quoted £120 for the screen

Agree, to add to that if it's a condensation issue then i'd be looking at new seals no cure the actual problem.
