Nic
I was out last week in the centre of HK, came back to the car to go home and she wouldn't start; turning over perfectly normally but just not firing, not even trying. Only option was to get tow truck to take it home for me, tried it next day still nothing just turned over, left it all weekend with the intention of getting it towed to my tuners today to get problem fixed. Thought I'd just give it one last go before calling the truck, first go she fired straight up and ticked over normally. I put it down to just being badly flooded, so drove into town again today, ran fine, perfectly normally. Parked up and left the car for few hours came back, exact same thing again, turns over strongly but just does not fire up. had to get towed again, this time directly to my tuners to take a look. So any suggestions what could be causing the intermitent fault?

Pete
Immobiliser playing up? Shouldn't turn over then should it? It's turning, but not sparking maybe? Don't suppose you got as far as taking a plug out and checking for a spark? Check all related parts to ignition then I guess.
Nic
Immobiliser playing up? Immobiliser got ripped out, as it kept flattening the battery, so not that.

No i was in the middle of a typhoon here today, so just got it towed to my garage to be looked at tomorrow. I'm sure they'll diagnose teh problem quickly as they know the car inside out, I was just curious that's all.
Pete
Probably be a loose or corroded wire at a guess.
stt
Wonder if it might be a faulty idle air control valve putting too much fuel into it when its not needed?
Ian C
When it comes to this sort of problem it's either: No spark No fuel And that's about it. An easy one to test is no fuel - take the fuel return hose off at the tank end and put it in a mug or bottle or something and see if fuel comes out! I used to have an intermittent prob like this due to a dodgy connection at the fuel pump cage - it was high resistance, once it was going it stayed going, the pump would stay running, but sometimes it simply couldn't spin the pump as too much current was dropped on the high resistance connection. A nightmare to diagnose as the *voltage* got through on the multimeter so it looked like the pump should have worked... If your plugs are fouled bigtime then it shouldn't start again until you change/clean the plugs - as yours did, I'd say it wasn't that. (The E-manage Ultimate has a fouled plug cleaning option if you have one of those Nic, and I know it works ) -Ian
Alex
Nic - can you try turning her over for 3secs...then immediately again for 3secs... at this point it might fire then die...then the next time you try it will live....if it's anything like a problem I've encountered before. Tried everything, just not even trying to fire. Just been down to my tuners who have been looking at the car today, they say it as electrical fault, the main warning light is coming on intermitently so sounds like could be broken connection somewhere. They said it will probably take a few days to track down where the fault lies. If anyone has any more thoughts what it could be let me know

No luck, just spoke to my supplier and he says he's tried to get before but not available from HKS Japan, so you'll maybe need to contact one of the HKS dealers there or HKS Europe

Nope I've been busy The Ultimate really does have a fouled plug cleaning function If you get the warning light up, check for fault codes And when it doesn't fire, verify you are actually pumping fuel like I said. If you are, it's not fuel delivery that is at fault and we can concentrate on the ignition side. -Ian
