jamesmark
My Tom Tom has been playing up a bit of late and the battery has gone on it, so will not stay on if unplugged. So thinking on getting a new one, it must have Traffic on it due to amount of miles I do, to be fair Tom Tom has served me well in regards to Traffic and saved me from many of a traffic jam. Having only ever had Tom Tom's, what are Garmin's like to live with? Especially if anyone has had both with live traffic.
Burna
Done a few real world tests with both units, and on Dragonball, and I can 100% confidently say DO NOT buy a Garmin over a TomTom. The traffic updates and alternative routes on the latest TomTom's are far superior to the Garmins, and this was proved on more than one occasion travelling back up the UK from Dragonball in May with a small group of cars using TomTom's and Garmins. If you have the budget, and want the best, this is the one to go for https://www.tomtom.com/en_gb/sat-nav/car-sat-nav/products/go-6200/ Quite a few people bought that model for Dragonball, and were very happy with them. Chris Bailey
Probably about time we invested in a new sat nav for Dragonball, as the one we use never seems to find an alternative route if we get split up from a group. It just tries to guide us back to the original route that's saved into the sat nav.

Cheers, exactly kinda real world responses I need, budget is not an issue and like the look/features of the linked one. My current traffic subscription is still valid till November, so update time will be fast approaching.

Ric
Just get the tom tom app for your phone... loads cheaper they do a 70quid version which is standalone, or an app which you pay every year i think its 18quid or so and download the maps as you need them. edit - monthly subscription ver - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/tomtom-go-mobile/id884963367?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 Fixed map version, looks like they've stopped this actually, probably because of the new one above. rider
Whichever is offering free map upgrades for life. though the available disc storage is always a life limiting option on those deals.
jamesmark
Cheers Ric, not sure on mobile app, although years ago when I first used it I was not impressed. For 1 month subscription, could be an option. Whichever is offering free map upgrades for life. though the available disc storage is always a life limiting option on those deals. That should never be an issue as part of the map update it overrides the previous one. It would take years and years to get a file so big to max out disc space. Ric
works ok for me and i always have my phone on me rather than carrying or having another device in the car.

As Tyson says you could just delete the way points, but the old TomTom XL units maps are way out of date now, so I would upgrade mate. I personally prefer each electronic device to do what it's specifically designed for, but I still do use the satnav on my phone if I'm without the TomTom. The tomtom app may well be good for the UK, but for the Dragonballers it doesn't work, you can't load in the custom routes. Also you'd be using a hell of a lot of data when abroad to use the live traffic. With the tomtom I linked to it's all free data built in, no need to link to your phone to use it's data
scott.wild
Do people still use Satnav hardware!! Navfree, Waze or other Apps on a mobile device work just as well if not better

Guest arthor9
Tried the Waze and I can say that it is a good app though Tom Tom traffic data is more reliable.
