Dnk
I like the SL55 AMG too. I once had a C43 AMG, and always fancied the SL. I recently looked at a SL500 by chance in a garage for sale, I guess they could be a cheaper alternative? Look forward to seeing what you end up with If the SL's weren't a potential money pit a SL55 AMG would be the next car for sure, the SL500 is a much cheaper option but still the same problems i think regards running cost
Chris Wilson
Got my pals SL500 coming in with it down on one back corner and the ABC (Active Body Control) warning on the dash showing. All fluid gone, so probably a new pump, valve block and two new rear struts, a flush and a load of labour, minimum a circa £5K bill.... How many gizmos do you REALLY want and need? He didn't pay £5K for the damned thing!
Dnk
Yes i've been reading about the ABC and costs involved
SPG
Dunk the M3 is a great all rounder, I'd go for one if I was looking.
Chris Wilson
Personally I can see the costs mounting to the point where it is uneconomically repairable, but persuading even a level headed fella' that a car he paid nearly 5K for 5 months ago is fit for the scrap yard is often impossible. He had me get the driver's window back up after it stuck down. it's some CAN BUS fault that I didn't fancy getting involved with, so he has had it at two different Benz main dealers and neither can find out what's up, the last one was talking about a new loom, with no guarantee of a fix.....£2600. Good ehh?
Dnk
Can't find any horror stories on the M3 DCT other than the electronic damping set up
Chris Wilson
All the damping is done in the floor panel Dunc! That's why....
