Ian C
It's the NA intake manifold, front side of it, and I've no idea if that's a deposit, stain, crack, or what. Or if say the bonnet is modified or there are any other problems with the car Or if it's always been there, appeared overnight, started at the hose and spread over a period of two months... Smells funny, feels funny, etc etc etc - More info needed! -Ian
Lazarus
Its the fwd end of the top of the NA intake manifold, no idea what would cause that tho.

Digsy
Looks pretty clean. Has the engine had any of that valeting silicone glaze stuff put on it? There is some discolouration on the hose as well, I notice. Perhaps something is leaking out of the hose and removing the glaze. Can't think of how anything could leak OUT of a plenum hose on an NA, though. Remind me what that hose actually is?
absz
that type of stain is normally left when you spray a leak detecter around hoses checking for leaks.
