brassbones
Does anyone know how to remove the shifter head so that you can remove the plastic plate with the gear numbers etc on?
evinX
You have to push the bottom surround down. Exposing 2 screws. Pull the side plastic that surround the buttons. And its easier to cut the od button wiring as i tried to disassemble one once and it exploded with springs flying out and such. Cut and resolder. Ric
Remove the panel surround. Unplug the blue connector the OD button is built into this fwd of the shifter Pull down the collar. 2 grub screws Remove the OD button with a flat screwdriver. VERY CAREFULLY. The only way to remove the OD wiring is through cutting it IMO, it will save you lots of headache. Stagger the cuts so you can identify which is which (they are just both plain white cables) Fit your new nob, or gear surround, solder the OD button cabling and refit back together. It's a pain of job.
brassbones
I'm getting the feeling this wasn't intended to be disassembled

Burna
100% only 2 or was on mine. Weird. I've had a dismantled J-Spec one in my desk at home for months, and it definitely has 4 wires. 2 for the button, and 2 for the bulb. White wires are for the button, green are for the bulb. Mk4Gaz
You don't need to cut the wires, if you buy the proper pin removal tools

Hammer
Wish I'd known about the pin removal tool before I did mine, I also had the exploding spring scenario . Still thanks for the info. guys, I can now do the job properly.
