Accountant wanted

I am setting myself up a new business and will need an accountant to manage my Tax returns, VAT and general tax management, my last accountant was so straight he actually cost me money so looking for someone who is a little more "creative "

I am returning to London to work full time and will need to arrange London accommodation etc so offsets will be needed, I have a long term contract already clinched

Any recommendations welcome

With the efforts HMRC have been going to in recent years doubling down their efforts to catch people out and punish dodgy accountancy practices I'd be surprised if you'd find many decent accountants willing to bend the rules significantly. (Aside from the massive multinationals able to continually abuse loopholes).

I am not looking to be dodgy, my last accountant was not working in my best interest and offering advise on how to protect my earnings from full tax liability, just looking for an accountant that actually works for me

Any decent account will not put themselves in a position that they can be fined by the HMRC as these fines are now c.50k

 

The HMRC are really tightening up on what can and can't be claimed for.

Please don't think I was implying you were going to do anything dodgy.

 

A good accountants should be working in your best interest.

I use a company called TaxAssist, they are quite good, inexpensive and easy to deal with. I can happily introduce you.... mine office is just south of the river, near Borough.

 

Nothing dodgy, but will help if you have additional ideas, separate business ideas, etc.
