I don't really get the new laws on this....

if for numbers sake you earn £1,000 a week and get caught speeding, say 70 in a 50 you will now get fined £1,500 and 3 points instead of £100 and 3 points? What an absolute joke if that's true.

Same if you're doing 50 in a 40 etc?

70 in a 50 falls in the band B bracket so it's 100% of your weekly earning capped at max fine of £2,500 I am afraid we had the best day's

Isn't this just if it ends up in court proceedings though? Ie +49mph in a 30 zone, 95mph in a 70, or if you disputed your ticket and lost. In real terms for the majority of us nothing will change, £100 and 3points.

What happens if you can't pay?

Court would decide that even if its £10 a week until its paid they will probably do it

Didn't know that I guess this is aimed at the double the speed limit offenders that normally end up in court or over 100+ normally goes to court instantly

I don't think this is true.

See this link, it shows how the fines are banded and includes the 31-40 range of being over 30mph which I don't think ever go to court? and that's a band A fine so 25-75% of a weeks pay (typically 50%)

41 in a 30 (again these don't go to court do they!?) moves into a Band B fine which is 75-125% (typically 100%) or a weeks pay.

My better half got caught by a mobile van on 01/05/17 doing 77 in a 50mph zone.

She's being given a 150% fine and 6 points on her licence.

Absolutely absurd that the fines are capped, why persecute the average joes!

I take this wasn't via court hearing ? A normal NIP in the post ?

The backlash will come (a bit) in the long term when grandparents and housewives get the 33mph fines at the end of a 30mph zone, ie when regular people get caught so it'll take a while, but there are more of the "don't want a fine don't do the crime" types than we think.

My worry is that by doing this they are self funding more camera vans and monitoring systems so not only have the fines gone up but the chances of being caught possibly will too, doubly whammy. Let's face it all my non petrol head friends all still technically speed, we all know of crappy 40mph dual carriageways, or rural 40mph roads that don't deserve it etc so we are all at risk of prosecution but generally we also all know the regular spots or fixed camera's etc so tend to avoid it. A few random/new ones and I could get a Band A in the blink of an eye!

That's literally how it is. The average middle income worker props up not only the rich but the poor as well.

Again, we are not saints, I cenrtainly ain't. But there is a solution to this, don't be such an idiot to speed on public roads.

I really don't get the whole moaning about it, yes it is not fair the way it gets done and even more so if they do not allow some sort of tolerance, the punishment could be £1 or £100,000 it matters not as you will not get punished if you don't do it. No one is to blame except the person that gets caught.

Yes in an ideal world, can you honestly say you drive with 100% concentration all the time and never miss a signpost.

Not in the slightest, as I said in my posts I am not Mr goody 2 shoes, I am an idiot and sometimes speed on roads, if I get caught it is my own damn fault.

As for your 'sorry I never seen the sign' that would just add to your speeding, driving without due care or attention if you get Mr Jobsworth Plod pulling you over.

Problem is they're reducing speed limits where it isn't warranted and average speed camera's going up, that is just to generate revenue, so no what you said about moaning isn't relevant.

I just got pulled doing 90 in a 60 [emoji19] On the A40 just after the national speed limit ended, 1am with no one else on the road. I was in an Alfa not the Supra.

The police car was hiding on a slip road, it had red flashing lights which I've never seen before? [emoji53]

Anyway I think that just squeezes me into the band B, looks like I'll be in for a few points and 100% fine [emoji35] lucky I am commission based so my basic wage is pretty low, surely they can only go by basic wages.

The copper did say that having a clean license will be taken into account, I'm also hoping the fact it was the middle of the night might count for something.

I was just about to slow down to 50 for an average speed zone! Noticed the red flashing lights as I checked my rear view before I braked.

Really annoyed at myself! I hardly ever speed unless it's clearly not going to endanger anyone else, like an empty 3 lane A road at 1am. I just wanted to get home. I'm also annoyed getting caught by a sneaky car sitting behind a wall, scanning the odd car that drives past every 5 minutes. Purely a money maker [emoji35]

I guess we will see what happens when I get a letter in 6-8 weeks.
