Tyson
Meant to post about this when I saw this awful crash and now read he's had both lower parts of his legs amputated. The crash is awful it was on BBC website but think they have taken it down. Full speed into a stationary car that was broke on the track There's a just giving page which is over £600,000 with £15,000 donations from lewis Hamilton, verstappen, jenson to name a few. The sport really pulling together after this horrible accident, only 17 as well. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-39651283

Tyson
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/3367118/billy-monger-appeal-crash-teenager-legs-amputated/ Sun still have the video on their website.
Alex_GT
I find it rather disturbing that new sites only run auto racing articles (that aren't F1) when something like this happens.
Annabella
The kid is so positive, one of first things he's chatted about is making a hand operated clutch for him, so he can continue the next Zanardi?
Hitbox Junkie
The guy has a lot of spirit and such a good attitude. Horrible crash in hope. He does continue with a hand operated clutch.
Pete
It's quite sad, I saw the videos and can see how quickly it happened. Didn't see the yellows or understand why the stationary car hadn't pulled off track? I'm not sure what the crowd funding is all about? It's all very nice that people feel they want to chip in and everything, but I mean...motorsports are dangerous. Anyone that's done a track day has signed their life away with all the disclaimers and I get that he's had a life changing experience...but so do many other people on a daily basis. They don't get half a million quid thrown at them. What am I missing?
Alex_GT
You can say that about anything. I work hard every day for 2p more than the minimum wage. There are thousands of other people who in relative terms do fuck all and earn hundreds of thousands a year. What am I missing? Life isn't fair. I agree and someone mentioned that surely he would have some kind of insurance or the race would have some kind of liability insurance. I'm not sure how it would work in a situation like this ? But then you could say the same thing about every just giving page/charity etc. Why should people donate to them and not someone else? What makes them or that charity better than another? People only donate as it touches a particular cord with them.. personally, either based on what they know, their fears and their insecurities about themselves. Why on earth do you have the "story" section on the Just giving site, its to try and make you hit a cord and donate. Same thing with any reality TV show, or stupid program like Xfactor or BGT, there is a "Story" to make you support that person.. if it plucks a heart string. Again same thing with Charity adverts, lets show some starving kids to make you send money. You see my point? You are not missing anything, this just didnt pull a string because of the reasons you stated, which is fair enough... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion etc.

Chris Wilson
I agree and someone mentioned that surely he would have some kind of insurance or the race would have some kind of liability insurance. I'm not sure how it would work in a situation like this ? At National Formula Ford level he's highly unlikely to have had personal liability cover, the cost would be horrendous to most people. The circuits indemnify themselves to the Nth degree against any come back from a normal racing accident, which this appears to be, despite the horrendous outcome. So its down to family and friends to cover his costs and needs after such a tragedy. If anyone thinks 750K or whatever the fund ends at is good money for losing both legs, feel free to get the hacksaw out He's seventeen, say he lives to 77. 750,000 divided by 60. £12500 a year to help him out. Hmmmm, doesn't sound so tempting does it...? Just think tonight what YOU wouldn't be doing with no legs, and how long YOU would take to acclimatise to such a life changing mishap. Let's hope he copes beyond his immediate bravado.

ManwithSupra
Great reply, was thinking this but didn't bother replying . Well I also had a number of people direct messaging me similar stuff when I put up the just giving page for Billy on my company social media pages. Whilst the outpouring of support from over 17.5k people is indeed a wonderful gesture to Billy, you are always going to get people who raise the "why is he so special" question, and again there is nothing wrong with that argument, however I like to put my point across as to why I think its the case. Pete
This lady struck more of a chord with me. She spots someone in need of help by the road, gets out and then another vehicle hits her. Lost her legs too. Her giving page is nearly at her $20,000 goal - https://www.gofundme.com/3osa58g
