Burna
I have for sale a pair of brand new tyres, 2 x Michelin Pilot Sport 4 PS4 - 245/45 R18 (100Y) XL TL. I bought these in error, and had them fitted to my alloys. It wasn't until my mechanic tried to move the car we realised I had bought the wrong profile size and they are too big for my setup. Cost me £270 for the pair new, will take £200 including UK postage.
scorling
Always happy to demonstrate my ignorance. I am looking for 245/40/R18 tyres because that is what is on the car at the moment. I don't know the significance of the difference between that and the tyres you have, can anyone help?
ShawnPreece
Always happy to demonstrate my ignorance. I am looking for 245/40/R18 tyres because that is what is on the car at the moment. I don't know the significance of the difference between that and the tyres you have, can anyone help? The middle figure is in relation to the tyre wall size and is a percentage of the width so the 245/40/18 tyre that you are looking for means the tyre wall size is 40% of 245 (98mm) and the tyres Burna is selling are 245/45/18 so the tyre wall is 45% of 245 (110.25mm). Width and Rim dimension size wouldn't change so no new rims are needed they will fit direct onto your existing wheels it would only be the tyre wall size that is effected. There are pro's and con's to changing this size, one of the main pro's and I think the reason Burna got them is the improved ride comfort. Burna
Thanks Shawn, that's exactly the reason I went for a 45 profile, to improve ride comfort, but just a shade to big to suit my setup.
Dnk
The diameter is quite a bit different 245 40 18 is 653 mm and 245 45 18 is 678 mm http://www.etyres.co.uk/how-to-change-your-tyre-size/
