Bob
Not had a migraine for a few months now. Never found anything that can help it either, other than limiting the bloody 3 day long headache. Mine generally start with the vision going, as if I've just grown another 20 blind spots in my vision. Then comes the pins-and-needles, eventually covering the whole body. When it reaches my tongue I tend to throw up a lot. If it's a particularly bad migraine, I'll lose the ability to make sentences for an hour or two. The worst by far has to be the hang-over-like headache that lasts for about 3 days. Feeling for ya, Jake.
SupraStar 3000
great post Lazarus, thanks. Makes you appreciate how delicate the human body is. WOW... 2% growth better put a cork in that hole or I'll lose more IQ points

Rob
I had a couple when I was a teenager, one started with black and white squares blinking on and off, but the wierdest one was when I lost my peripheral vision, which was hard to spot. I knew something was wrong but couldn't figure it out for ages.

Jake
Its been a couple of days, how are you feeling now Jake? Over it I Hope. Same thing again last night. Went to bed about 12 feeling fine. Woke up about an hour later with the start of a migraine. Laid there for a few mins hoping it wouldn't get any worse but of course it did. Took some Triptan. Got dressed and waited for WW3 to start in my skull. Didn't have to wait long. Over the next hour I took some Ibuprofen, some Paracetemol and some Aspirin. I nearly necked some great dane worming tablets, what they're doing in our medicine drawer I don't know. Drank a load of water. Went to the back of the house and bashed my head against the door for a while. Tried to watch TV but couldn't stand the brightness. Went for a walk but felt stupid staggering along the road moaning and groaning with both hands over one eye. Went home and listened to the TV for a while. Visited the back door again a couple of times. Fell asleep about 4am and woke up at 10am feeling fairly OK but boiling hot. The Mrs had covered me in blankets while I was asleep. I think she was trying to smother me. Can't say I blame her. Anyway, I'm putting off going to bed tonight. Four in a row would be more than I could bare. Lazarus
Not good fella. I had an episode a few years ago where the migraine would keep me awake and the lack of rest was perpetuating the migraine, (nearly 3 weeks), in an act of desperation the missus called the doctor out and he gave me an injection to put me to sleep to break the viscious circle. I don't recall the name of the drug but its normally used as a first aid treatment for heart attack victims apparently, that worked, slept like a baby for three days and woke up fine and dandy, he wouldn't let me have the stuff on presciption tho.. LOL! I think you need to go see the "quack" fella.
Bob
Jake, if you're getting them in series, one after the other, you really should go see the doctor. The migraines could be a side effect of something else.

mikeyb10supra
2nd night running. God, I wanted to shoot myself. I could hardly see. Been up for 2 hours now and it's finally wearing off. It's taking me ages to type ths as I keep making mistakes. Still feel all shaky. I'm typing like Supradibbs - you know you're in trouble when that happens. Fuck knows why I'm even writing this, just something to do, thinking out loud. I've been sat outside for the last hour with a jack handle hoping the cunts that smashed my car window last week come back but it's freezing out there. I guess even the lowlife scum don't come out when it's this cold. Ever had a migraine? It's like the worst headache ever, x100. I would have quite happily of shot myself 2 hours ago. Everytime I have one I'm sure it's the worst I've ever had. Still can't see quite properly. Feels like I've got a metal spike though my right eye. All of my scalp feels hyper sensitive and I can actually feel my brain pulsing inside my head. The pulses of pain are amazing, it's like being tortured but there's no point in begging for it to stop....but you do anyway. You know what really pisses me off? . . . .Everything. but one thing that really really gets me is when folks say "Ooo Ive got a migraine so I'll be in a bit late today" Errrr no love, if you had a migraine you wouldn't even be able to hold a conversation. Any other migraine sufferers out there? You must know where I'm coming from. Yes they Fu*king smart......I like the pulsating throbs that ripple through your head......and also how sick it makes you feel.... I have'nt had one for a long time and hope that I dont get one for even longer
mikeyb10supra
I've had the odd one, hurt like hell! Get a lot of patients in with migraines as the GPs send a lot to us to get their vision checked etc too - few different types of migraines out there. You noticed any flashin lights etc? Best thing to do is sleep it off - lights off, head under pillow and pass out! Yeah dude thats what I used to get the old flashing lights.......in the corner of my eyes....what type is that?? Matt_J
I get migraines alot, have done since I can remember. I can't eat chocolate & cheese, which is a pain because I like them both. I know when I've got one coming because I get blind spots, eventually I cant see a thing. Unless you've had one, people have no idea how painful they are. Guest Terry S
I was about to say the can be attributed to certain foods sometimes. I used to get them at School, after lots of tests it was due to Cheese. Eat it very rarely now, still get bad head aches but not the blinding type. attilauk
i get migranes occasionally they usually sneak up on me with no warning. they start with me seing blue and yellow lights in my left eye which rapidly progresses to tunnel vision then its a struggle to see anything and i get an overwhelming feeling of everything seeming very slow then the pain starts. they usually last for about 12 hours but i feel terrible afterwards for a day or so. luckily i dont get them very often but when i do the knock me about really badly. Jake as Bob said you really should go see the doctor mate!
Nick
Until now I thought a migraine was just a very bad headache, I had no idea they caused so much pain. Now I know different and I'm very, very thankful I've never had one.
Dash Rendar
I get migraines regularly and have done since I was about 10. Some months I'll get maybe three or four. Then some months I'll only get one. I have to take a low dose of beta blockers everyday as a preventative measure. It helps a little; reckon I'd get maybe 30-50% more if I didn't take them. And I also take naratriptan when I feel one coming on. If I take the pill early enough, the symptoms are much more mild. But if I wait till the migraine has already set in, they do nothing. Thats because Naratriptan is another "chemical B" inhibitor (see my earlier post), if you take it after the migraine has hit its about as useful as tits on fish. Dash Rendar
Actually, naratriptan is a 5HT agonist. That means it simulates the effects of seratonin on certain seratonin receptors in the brain. This causes vasoconstriction (contraction of the blood vessels) and so the net result is the same: the blood vessels don't expand so much. (I wasted four years of my life studying biochemistry, so it's kinda nice to be able to recall something useful from time to time.) Your explanation is easier to read! about as useful as tits on fish Good one! Or a handbrake on a boat.

Ok, that one nearly went over my head, but I gather your saying it does the same thing as the "chemical B" inhibitor but from another direction. But it still sounds like if you take it after the migraine hits your trying to fight an uphill battle, ie the blood vessels are already too large and your trying to reduce them rather than taking them before the migraine hits to control the cells at a normal balanced state. Tigger
I’ve suffered with them for the past Severn years now:(, but they did settle down about six months ago until some twat hit my car and now I’m getting them on a daily basis again. . It'sthe forgetfullness I can’t stand or when your consontrating on soemthing and your mind just goes blank:cry: I use to take Co-codamal for the migrain amognst other pills. I did find Soplandine a very good relife from the worst of the pain, but now I can’t take them. Hope they can findout why your getting them
KatieC
You can get tension migraines too, syndol is good for that as my colleague at work uses them and swears by them. They have a muscle relaxent in them and works both on the migraine and the tension. Can cause dowsiness thought.
