michael
Guess who was expecting delivery of a new sofa this month after waiting 4 months for it to be built..... Me! http://www.furnitureland.co.uk/ Just been down there to try and get my cash back after getting a call from them to say I could and the store is closed tonight (should be open until 8), reckon it will be busy at 9am when it opens again? We've been told we can have the cash we've paid off anything in the store (the display version of our sofa is sad there laughing at us through locked doors) or request a refund which will be processed by their head office. Ideally I'd like to bag a bargain in store tomorrow, I'm concerned that requesting a refund won't actually result in one - has anyone experienced anything like this before? It sounds as though they are being decent enough about it and it's not another Courts scenario but I was looking forward to my new loafing device Bah! :thumbdown
ellis
I had same experience with a company in Wales that went tits up. If you paid by credit card you should be OK - I was. Also, your sofa may well have been built and may be sat somewhere. With mine, the delivery company (who were owed money by tht sofa company) phoned me and said they'd got the sofa on their van and did I still want it. The popped round with it, I gave them some green and I got a new sofa for a large amount less than it would have been. If you ring around a bit you may have some joy - with you ordering it so long ago there's a fair chance it will have been made and could be sitting in their warehouse or be with the delivery company. The receivers may know but don't expect it to be a quick outcome!
michael
I'm guessing Visa debit doesn't give you the same sort of cover as normal visa? I'll see what happens tomorrow....
dangerous brain
Yeah I heard this on the radio news today. I bought a laptop from tiny 2 days before they went under. Despite it being a HP model that had supposedly already been ordered and payed for from HP I am now having to go through the rigmarole of getting my money back through my credit card. SimonB
I'm guessing Visa debit doesn't give you the same sort of cover as normal visa? I'll see what happens tomorrow.... Unfortunately not, it's part of the consumer credit act, which only applies to credit. VISA might have some kind of voluntary arrangement though, worth asking the bank I guess. ellis
You might have a fun trip ahead then! With VATman and the Inland Revenue heading the queue there won't be a great deal left when they're done - good luck though mate, hope you manage to get your sofa. michael
Well I was there at opening time today, 10 other people too - we got in at 9:15 after the skinny 'security' opened up late. I was then told that I couldn't have a refund and wouldn't be getting my sofa - luckily I'd only paid a deposit of £160 to date so I was invited to wander around the showroom and select items to that value. Unfortunately none of the sofas were included in this as they are being given to customers who have paid their balance in full on a first come first served basis. So I wandered around looking at nasty pictures, gaudy lamps and obscene vases at huge markups - you've all seen the kind of crap these places put out, massive wine glasses filled with paper maché lemons and similar tat Ended up negotiating a £400 rug with no extra to pay, I'd never spend that on a rug normally (or the £160 to be honest!) due to me being a cheapskate IKEA fan but I feel like I've done OK. Just glad I got there first, there wasn't much to be had so anyone who goes in next week will be screwed. People were generally calm, just one BMW driving gimp who went off on one over £150 paid on a credit card (lucky devil!) and a women who had got a table and chairs delivered on Wednesday but they had no legs and were the wrong colour. People will sign for anything! (She'd paid by visa as well so will probably end up with a refund and the incomplete goods if she's 'lucky') So I've learnt to only pay for these things on a proper credit card in future or to buy items that are in stock and can be taken away.
