Fulcrum2000
Hi All Has anyone had their Supra re-sprayed and if so what kind of price was it? I have a Black TT Import 93 and its 90% fine but where it has problems they are really in need of attention. I've taken it to two bodywork specialists who seem to want more money for doing the problem areas than a full spray in other places. Also anyone know of any decent sprayer/bodywork people in the Lincolnshire area?
navtrd
Glass out job your looking around 2.5k some charge up to £3000 don't think youl get it any cheaper sorry don't know anyone around Lincolnshire area.
ellis
There's Paint Perfect in Lincoln (won't be cheap but will be awesome) and G&W Bodyworks in Skellingthorpe who will be cheaper and very good. Where have you looked so far? Price will also depend on whether it's a colour change / same colour / much repair work etc but don't expect much change out of £5K. You can get it cheaper but there's always another price to pay.
Fulcrum2000
I've been to F Paints in Louth who quoted £3200 just to touch up all the scratches and do the rust and repaint over there but the trouble is when you take a Supe anywhere everybody just visibly gets big cartoon pound signs coming out of their eyes. I'm after keeping it black its not a colour change, there's the odd bit of rust but most of the problems would go away with a full spray. Its really difficult as £3k would probs get my engine upgrades completely paid for as well. I was hoping for someone to touch u all the little problem areas for about a grand. Maybe a touch optimistic.... - - - Updated - - - Someone in the trade says MPH Body works Ltd in Grimsby are really good and fairly cheap, anyone know of them? Scooter
Which bits need attention?
ellis
Trouble with paint is: pay cheap, pay twice! £3200 for touching up sounds like they didn't want the work. Where are you based?
black_widow87
Iv just been quoted £600 to have the roof re-done with the glass in.
Fulcrum2000
I'm in Louth, the touch up bits arent bad in my untrained opinion, couple of rust spots on the bonnet, one on the rear window, you know classic Supe weak points, then theres a few scratches and the handles and spoiler base need doing, other than that its all really minor. Scooter
Well the bonnet won't be rust (as it's aluminium) but I know what you mean it looks like rust bubbling. Sounds like you could try one of those chipsaway type places on a couple of bits? Scratches and bonnet? they'll give you a yah or ney on the other bits too then? Stonkin
A proper paint job involves proper prep work, taking many hours to do correctly. It's not just how a paint job looks the day you collect it, it's how it looks a year later. If you cut corners it will give you grief later on. Paint prices can vary hugely, as does the quality. Just choose your budget and view as many examples of their customers work that you can. Agree your expectations of the job before anything starts. Mac Srt
I got quoted £7500 from a painter near me ! I just got the impression he didn't want the job... Other quotes I had were £1800 and one for £2500 All were Windows out job.
Rob W
Mines currently in the process of full repaint, windows out etc. Hopefully get it back next week. £2600 but that's me stripping the whole car myself inside and out plus re-fitting everything. drift_bear
I paid cheap (£2200) for a full respray and it reacted and fucked up after 18months, glass/mirrors/handles weren't removed or etc! Recently paid for a full colour change, glass out and bare metal respray and was around the £5200 area! It's all down to the prep as has been mentioned, that's where most the cost comes into factor and after seeing it myself the prep takes the longest! HarleyFDMD
Tim couzens in Stamford Lincolnshire does a good job. I have had alot done by him. Bonnet, wings, front bumper, sills, rear quarters and roof. Paid in the region of £1500 for all that. There are good people out there that dont expect you to sell a child. Sometimes i think people can be fooled into thinking the more you pay the better the job will be.. and dont get me wrong, in many cases that will be correct. Your never going to get a perfect finish for £300, but that doesnt necessarily mean you have to spend £6000. I think of painting like tattoos.. you wouldnt just go and get a tattoo off someone because they charge a fortune. You'd want to see previous work they have done. Dutchman
I just picked mine up yesterday from a full window out every piece taken off with new rubbers fitted all around the car exterior respray. Same colour which was 6N0 and I paid £1500 cash still got a full invoice and progress pics from throughout the job to show each stage being done and completed, I'm from cumbria way so might be cheaper than down south to begin with. But I'm over the moon with the workmanship it looks amazing

Dutchman
I snapped his hand off when I got the quote haha it was going to be £1000 with windows left in or £1500 for windows out but you have to factor in the £1000 for rubbers from toyota
Pete
but you have to factor in the £1000 for rubbers from toyota How do you figure that? Unit 49 did mine windows out, some restoration work and other bits recently and I'm very happy with the results. https://www.facebook.com/Unitfortynine Scroll down his page and you'll see mine and two other Supras. Because I just paid £1000 for the all the rubbers from toyota so the paint job was £1500 plus another £1000 for the rubbers from toyota. So all in the job has cost me £2500 I didn't quite word that right in my post, most of the original rubbers would of been ok it's just I'm a fussy prick and wanted new ones.
