Importing wheels from America.....

I'm looking at buying 2 wheels from CCW in America but the shipping cost they gave me is... Well let's just say I was glad I was sitting down.

They told me that people get better prices by using freight companies that get the parcel sent to them and then ship over to me after.... Has anyone had experience in this or can recommend good companies that do this

Or any method of importing wheels from CCW?

Be careful coz the tax man will try and bum rape you

Think it was usps who the guy used, but make sure when he puts down the price of contents on the box he doesn't put down the total cost of both wheels on one box, because the tax man will try to tax you on the total amount of both boxes so you basically get taxed twice

Ahh I see hadn't thought of that, thanks for the heads up :)

Just had a thought and could be a silly thought but are there many import laws between the states and Canada? I have family in Canada so could get it delivered to them and then they could send it on to me if there is any benefit in that?

I imported my wheels from America and the cost of postage was more than the wheels themselves! I had no choice but to bite the bullet, and yes got stung again once they arrived from the tax people! :(

Yeah they didn't give me an exact quote for postage they just said they have known it to be $2200 for postage to UK before, although sitting down I almost fell off my seat

Unless you find and trust somebody to send them to in the states so they can then ship them to you(if that makes sense?). The tax is gonna be a very costly experience

Yeah there is knowone I know in the states but I do have family in Canada so was wondering whether rules might be different that I could possibly get it sent to them and then they could forward it on to me maybe.... I need to look into that though as I have no idea

You'll pay 20% Vat and 4.5% import duty on alloy wheels

https://www.dutycalculator.com/dc/1569-import-duty-rate-for-Alloy-wheels-is-4.5/

wow yeah that adds alot to it

I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure SRD deal with CCW wheels don't they?

Yeah just had a whatsapp message off a mate saying that too so I might give Lee a shout today to see what he says cheers

I paid around $600-800 for shipping a set of 19" SSR's from Titan so $2200 sound really really expensive. Mine came via Fedex.

ahh see although really expensive I could live with that... thanks il see what joy I get talking to Lee and Jurgen today but will bear fedex in mind then :)

If you import into the UK from a non EU country you will be charged VAT unless it's a gift and/or below a set value (used to be £17 for old toys which I used to buy). Some couriers demand it upfront and incorporate it into their fee so you never actually have to deal with it yourself.

The American postal system is a little fragmented so you get lots of varied prices. In reality though I just think a lot of Americans are lazy at getting a good postage deal and since you're paying for it they don't make an effort.

I'd try find out if you can arrange a courier from the UK to pick up and post back to you. I.e. Arrange it with a UK courier for collection from the US.

Parcel2go is a compare the market sort of website (aggregator) if I remember correctly so they might be helpful?

That's true Titan do the CCW Supra specific set up and they were on here the other day about doing deals, might be worth jumping on their thread and asking them if they can do anything for you
