foggy147
Hoping someone can help. Left work tonight and the speedo / clock had stopped working. It was absolutely fine this morning, car had been sat in office car park and then tonight it's just stopped. All my other dials work just the speedo and clock. Any idea what may of caused this and is it an easy fix Thanks in advance.
GreaseMonkey
Sounds like the 10A Gauge Fuse located the drivers side kick panel/ foot well Fuse Box has blown/ poor connection as only common denominator/ connection between the two items. foggy147
Will try and replace the fuse tomorrow, however the rev counter is working fine it's just the speedo and odemeter.
foggy147
The car is a facelift NA auto by the way. Been reading about some speed sensors on the transmission, would they cause them both to stop?
GreaseMonkey
Going by my old notes on a pre facelift, there is a Speed Sensor that works between the the Odo & Trip display and the Speedometer. (so would make some coincidental sense why both are inop) The Speed Sensor has a Black 3 pin plug (Wire/ Pin No.: 1. Yellow, 2.Red, 3. Blue w/Red stripe) connector on the Drivers side of the Auto Transmission. From there they run to an Orange 38 pin Plug on left side lower half behind the Passenger Glove box, near LH Fuse box (Wire/ Pin No.: 23.Yellow, 2.Blue w/Red stripe, 8.Red. Then from there they run to the Combination meter unit on a Brown 13 pin Plug (Wire/ Pin No.: 13.Yellow) and Blue 13 pin plug (Wire/ Pin No.: 3.Red, 5.Blue w/Red stripe.) INSPECT VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR OPERATION (W/ Speed sensor unplugged and removed from Transmission) (a) Connect the positive (+) lead from battery to terminal 1 and negative (–) lead to terminal 2. (b) Connect the positive (+) lead from tester to terminal 3 and negative (–) lead to terminal 2. © Rotate shaft. (d) Check that there is voltage change from approx. 0 V to 11 V or more between terminals 2 and 3. HINT: The voltage change should be 4 times for every revolution of the speed sensor shaft. If operation is not as specified, replace the sensor. The Odo & Trip Display use a 7.5A Dome Fuse also (as well as 10A Gauge Fuse), if that Fuse has blown the interior roof light would be inop. Also Ground wire/ Earth for Odometer & Trip is (Pin 7) Brown wire to Drivers Kick panel/ Footwell, near fusebox. On Facelift VVTI: Speed Sensor is a 2 pin Plug on LH Side of Gearbox (Wire/ Pin No.: 1. Blue w/ Yellow stripe, 2. Red w/ Yellow Stripe) which run to the ECM ( 18 Pin plug No.: 5. Blue w/ Yellow stripe, 11.Red w/ Yellow Stripe) Speed Sensor itself (unplugged & removed from Transmission) resistance 560 - 680 Ohms. Reference check vehicle speed sensor’s function: Check voltage between terminals 1 and 2 of the vehicle speed sensor when a magnet is put close to front end of the vehicle speed sensor then taken away quickly. OK: Voltage is generated intermittently. HINT: Voltage generated is extremely low. Also Check connections & wiring on the back of the Combination meter assy, as could be an aftermarket KPH to MPH converter at fault (if fitted). Hope this Helps Edited March 23, 2017 by GreaseMonkey (see edit history)
foggy147
Got to love cars. Working fine this morning!! The only thing I noticed this morning was the bootlid not being 100% shut, so whether that was throwing some sort of error I do not know?! However the odmoeter and speedo now working.
