Advice on shipping my gearbox to Europe

Hi guys

My V161 gearbox has never been perfect since buying the car. Since going single the new clutch and flywheel have made it feel and sound worse than before, so I'm going to send it off to Suprastore in the Netherlands to get sorted once and for all.

I've never sent anything like this before so I'm hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. I'm guessing it will need to be on a pallet.

Does anyone know the rough weight and dimensions of the V161 when removed?

What do I need to package it with, other than the pallet? Pallet wrap? Anything else?

Most importantly can anyone recommend a delivery company?

Regards

Karl

It will need to be on a pallet and you will find most companies want it fully sealing so will need to be covered with a cardboard box thats fixed to the pallet or wrapped in the industrial cling film stuff.

Ive used Palletways to send to europe which was not too expensive. However watch the small print as a lot of pallet companies will not pick up from a residential address and if it gets booked in they will then charge you for them cancelling it!!

Only advice would be use the internet for pricing and then phone and speak to someone you want to book it with as they will accept anything on the websites and then add all the extras on after!

It will be going from the Crews Hill branch which are not set up for such things unfortunately. I have to arrange it all apart from removing and refitting.

He suggested one company called sendapallet.co.uk

Just wanting some advice on the finer details like packaging and weight etc.

When I sold my last supra for parts I shipped the engine and drive train abroad to Finland and Norway. I used National Pallets and made full boxes to ensure all parts arrived in one piece. I used plywood to build the boxes.

V160 weighs about 51kg. Of course you will need to factor in the box too.

I don't recall the costs being very high, no more that £100- £150, one way of course.

Not used them but they have a good reputation.

I would get a couple of tie down straps off ebay and strap it down on to the base of your pallet (chop a pallet in half maybe), then build a box over it or very wrap it in a few layers of really thick cardboard and then wrap seal it.

Suprastore don't have a very good reputation. Look them up on the forum to see a host of issues. I'd avoid personally.

A working V160 V161 should be able to cope with a significant level of power. More important than the bhp would be the torque figure you hope to achieve. That's the thing that will put the strain on the gearbox.

The one in the netherlands and not the USA based scam website?

I had heard good things from a couple of people who had bought parts from them, and I have also with no issue. I have no idea on their gearbox skills though.
