foggy147
Does anyone know if this double din unit would be a straight swap for the Supra? Thanks Kenwood DPX7000 DAB
bayside_supra
Double din should fit fine
j_jza80
Pretty much all double DIN units fit, but you may need to trim the surround on the back of the dash panel.
scorling
Fitted a new double din unit yesterday. I spent more time trimming the dash panel to get a good fit than I spent fitting the unit
foggy147
So I don't even need to purchase an additional cage etc? Any specifiic removal tools (it currently has a single din unit) Edited March 20, 2017 by foggy147 (see edit history)
j_jza80
No, you dont use a cage in the supra (or most Japanese cars of this era) the stock metal radio brackets detach from the existing stereo, and screw into the side of your new unit, using ONLY the correct length screws. If a cage has been used, which I have seen before, it is a bodge.
j_jza80
If you're not confident doing this, if you can bring the car over to York at some point I'd be happy to give you a hand fitting it
foggy147
Ok thanks guys. J_JZA80 might have to take you up on that offer! Useless at these sort of things. Treated myself to this unit instead, few addtional luxury features.
foggy147
Stereo turned up today, looks like a nice system. In readiness this is the adapter that it has come with, will this be plug and play and if not what will i need to get ordered to ensure a stress free fitting? foggy147
Thanks Rob, good old eBay £3!! Will that be all I'd need?
Rob W
Thanks Rob, good old eBay £3!! Will that be all I'd need? Yes mate. What stereo did you have in it before? As most aftermarket headunits work off of the PC2-17-4.
foggy147
Its a Goodman's that's currently in a single din unit
Rob W
Have you taken it out yet? I'd look and see what you have there already if you haven't mate.
j_jza80
It probably has an adapter already if it's fitted with an aftermarket stereo. And there's a good chance the connections have been cut in favour of bullet or blade connectors. Don't order anything until you've checked
foggy147
Going to fit the stereo tomorrow, where is the best place to stick on the DAB Ariel? Passenger side pillar? How easy is it to remove the pillar cover to be able to attach it to some bare metal?

BoGlE
Easy to remove the trim. You could run the wire up there and across to the rear view mirror and attach it behind that
