Scott-tt
My lower oil pan has been leaking pretty bad as the threads are stripped in the drain plug. I repaired the threads with a kit that replaces the drain plug with a larger one but it still leaks so the time has came for a new oil pan. I have bought a new oil pan and new plug and washer from Toyota for £207. I had read the only way to get the old lower pan out is to either remove the engine completely or raise the engine enough that you can get the old pan out, so I opted for the second option as it sounded a lot easier as my engine hoist is a bit small for lifting big longitudinal engines out. I had an engine support beam so I thought I'll give that a go. As you can see I couldn't use the hooks on it as they were too low even with them right up so I put some blocks of wood in and that still wasn't high enough so I just put a chain over the top and that seemed to work. I unbolted the lower oil pan and tried to remove it but it looks as though I've still not got enough clearance by about 10mm but the engine can't come any higher using the support beam!? Does anybody have any ideas or am I best to lower the subframe to give me extra clearance? PS Ignore the mess my garage is in Edited March 18, 2017 by Scott-tt (see edit history)
