Friends 94 TT AUTO NON VVTI bogging down

Crash Bandicoot

Hi all,

Trying to sort out a friends supra, has anyone had similar problems, any input?

He came to me a week ago saying he's got no power and it keeps bogging down and has the warning triangle light and engine management light come on intermittently. This problem happens 50% of the time when he drives it. The lights come on when it is running rough.

I went round to his last weekend and heard it running, sounded like it was down on 2 or 3 cylinders, so naturally I changed the spark plugs, when swapping out the old ones for fresh new ones I found that one of the clips to a coil pack had been modified/bodged due to the clip disintegrating. However, I put it all back together and first turn of the key it ran spot on, it was good for a week, with a long 70 mile trip included, he said it ran beautifully. Last night I had a phone call saying it was back to its lumpy self again.

I don't want to be telling him to replace the coilpack just incase that doesn't solve the problem, if it were my own supra I would replace it just to be happy. I don't think it would run this rough with one cylinder down.

Other than that coilpack I'm thinking it could be a problem with

Fuel filter?

Ecu?

Fuel pump?

I'm not too clued up on auto's but have had 9 supra's all manual apart from one tip tronic and one na auto that I didn't hold onto for long.

Anyone that could shed some light on this?

Much appreciated

Jay
