Please can someone advice what the process is for buying a car from Northern Ireland? I'd be flying from Manchester to Belfast and would then need to get the car back on the ferry.

 

What's the best way of doing this? Can I insure it, tax it as normal etc to make sure I am covered to drive it back?

Ni is part of the uk. So tax it insure it, fly over there, drive to the ferry port and have a great ride home...

Same as buying the car from England, Scotland or Wales bud as far as insurance tax & mot goes. We're just another part of the uk

Also, Stranraer ferry is cheaper and a much shorter crossing, with a good drive down to enjoy. Liverpool ferry might be an overnight sailing but gets you much closer to home

Its easy done for the right car, I bought mine from London area and went the opposite way. I wouldn't do an overnight sailing tho, I'd go either of the options below depending on which sailing time suited best.

 

3.5hr boat from Belfast to Stranraer/Cairnryan then 4 hour drive to Manchester

 

2 hour drive to Dublin, 3.5hr boat to holyhead, then 2 hour drive Manchester.
