Guest JeffB
Greetings from the US! We are currently getting a huge (40+ people) group purchase together on the Racelogic Traction Control unit and I'm 99% certain that I'll be on the list... however, i have not been able to find even 1 person who has real data on before and after straight line performance improvements with one of these boxes... surely somebody has run at the dragstrip with the unit on and off (or before and after install)... even a g-tech comparison would be vastly better than "i love it, it works great!"... i've searched and searched for this info, including on this board... i've seen others ask the same question (even here) and every time as i'm getting excited to scroll a little farther down to find my answer -- nope! no reply... if there was a little more hard proof that this thing helps improve acceleration on over-powered street cars i think the numbers on our group buy would more than double... so please, help us help your economy! Druid
I'd guess UK (or in general, European) users are less interested in the straight line acceleration benefits than they are in the added stability and controllability whilst cornering, especially in wet or icey conditions. However, launch control should give you a reasonable edge, and will minimize wheelspin. Look at what F1 is doing for example, hardly any wheelspin during launches. That said, I'm not sure launch/traction control is allowed during drags, but I could be wrong. For more proof, you could scrounge some video material off of the RLTC website. Terminator
Hi Jeff, good to hear from you. The drag scene in the UK is nothing like yours, an I doubt any one has done the test you seek. One of the main reasons we fit the kit over here is to keep the car on the road. We have such wonderful weather here;) You might try [email protected] they are very helpful. I would be interested to see their response. If you need any advice on settings spefic to the MKIV PM me.
Guest Martin F
Not that helpful, but i did use my RLTC when i was at North Weald (local runway\drag strip) and to be fair it didn't make a massive amount of difference to when i tried without it. I had the launch revs set to about 2500 and it was probably too high as soon as i let the clutch up revs would go round to 5500 and i'd just start to spin similar to a non RLTC start. But this was my first time drag racing and i don't feel that my experience is conclusive proof. Next time i go i will be dropping the launch revs to about 1500- 1800 and seeing what happens. Now using launch control with drag radials.......that may throw up some interesting numbers.
Guest JeffB
Hi guys! thanks for the responses... I guess I'm going to have to be the one to prove to the world that this thing works!! right now on the supra i'm running BFG KD's 295/30-18 in the rear and the car is flat out dangerous in any conditions! I never drive in the wet, but even on dry pavement going in a straight line the car will kick out at over 60mph... if we believe racelogic that 10% slip actually provides the max rate of acceleration, then controlling this parameter has to provide some gains not only in safety but also in acceleration... on my car i'm also running the AEM PEMS (are these big over there too? i would think so given their relation to GEMS...) anyway, with this ECU i can set a boost curve based on road speed... i start out with about 13psi at 10mph and fade up to 28psi by 70mph... this gets me in the ballpark, traction-wise, but when the pavement type changes i can still end up with some wild wheelspin... i'm hoping that the RLTC would provide a nice dynamic fine-tune to this setup... i'll definitely try emailing that racelogic address and i'll let you know if i hear anything... thanks! Branners
There is also a mail group for RLTC, its at http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/RLTC/ If you are having problems with grip in general driving then racelogic will really sort those out, turns a tuned Supra from something that may kill you at the slightest bit of slip to a controllable car in all conditions. I think most of the big power supras in the UK (Whiffy might be the exception to this) run RLTC. I have been in a car running HKS twins in the wet with RLTC and you can floor it in any gear you want and the RLTC will control it. I never got to try it out at a drag strip so cant say if it helps or not. JB
Guest JeffB
it pretty much HAS to help i would think... we went out last week and even with ET streets we had no traction... best 60' we could muster was a 1.99... ended up running 11.2 @ 136!! not exactly making the most of the power... my camaro used to run 10.2 @ 136 so i'm not too excited about 11s from the supra... anyway, i fired off that email to RL, we'll see what they say... Guest JeffB
well i finally got some data... unfortunately, RL was unable to supply me with anything... i find that almost shocking... kind of like Toyota saying they don't know how much HP one of their cars makes... anyway, check out these links: TVR Sprint Car: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/shpub/Racelogic.html Volvo T5 web site with results: http://www.t5uk.com/traction_control.htm And a scanned image of an article that tested the RLTC some time ago: http://www.northeastperformance.org/rltc/tc-article.jpg
