Phil I would imagine that would be horrible and like driving a tank at low speeds !! It's not a light car, I once drove a corsa with no power steering and that was like wrestling a bull I can only imagine what it would be like with a car twice as heavy ... Sandesupra
I once had a Focus ST and lost powersteering at it 2 was absolutley horrible.. But thinking this has a ratio option, i'm kinda hoping it would be allright;-) might just be better to get a new power steering rack then.. bayside_supra
My power steering went once, the car was not really drivable without it. Just had to nurse it home as I could barely turn the wheel
G9RGE
When I fitted a 1jz to my last na i didnt hook up the power steering and it was fine to drive. Infact when moving i would say it was better weighted than standard but it was noticeable when maneuvering.

MattP
If you have a decent set of arms on you go for it when my pump packed up it was fine... until I wanted to park then it was a battle to turn the wheel haha and that was stock tyre sizes

Sandesupra
what about the ratio bit? 20/1 bit.. would that help or is it the same as oem, just without help from PS?
Chris Wilson
20 to 1 ratio is a lot lower than stock, so whilst it may lighten what would be ridiculously heavy manoeuvring with a none pwer assisted stock ratio, you will have to turn the wheel more for a given radius turn, and it won't feel as "swerveable". IMHO on a full weight car it's strictly drag race only. You can get away with a manual rack in an RX-7, but not in a road driven MKIV.
