Front and rear subframes

As subject these must be excellent condition (little or no rust) and preferably not reconditioned.

Bare subframes are fine and I do not need the alloy front one.

I can arrange collect anywhere in the UK.

The jza80 front subframes are the same as a Soarer but which model?

Pictures please if you have anything.

Thanks

Be impossible to find an excellent condition subframe with little or no rust that hasn't been reconditioned.

Surely it would be easier to get any subframe and get it sandblasted and powder coated.

That is what I did and I know have a 100% mint subframe that rivals its original state

I just want a very good base tbh (if they are rusty you can see the pitting through the powder coating) there must be a good clean one some where?

I have genuinely got an almost rust-free and original bare front subframe.

Being 22 years old and untouched there is some surface corrosion, but my car had to be one of the cleanest examples around before I broke it.

I was even prepared to offer sections and subframes from the chassis as good-as-new replacement parts for the areas that usually succumb to rot on the MKIV.

Then someone bought it complete as a project.

Unless you have major structural rust I'd not worry about a bit of surface rust.

I dropped my subframes, tank shield and other parts off yesterday at a powder coaters. Overall condition on them was pretty good with just a few light spots of surface corrosion in places, only to be expected after 22 years on the car.

I'm getting mine blasted, zinc primered and then powder coated. That way if powder coat chips the metal is still protected.

Pics of the front subframe.

It has been stood outside since last October so it's even grottier looking now. But it's as solid as the day it was bolted to the car in 1995.

Ditto Mark! Ideally a rear one too as my front is very good condition. That said unless a good one is available I will do the same and have it shot blasted, coated in Zinc 182 and power-coated. Mine only has surface rust but bugs the hell out of me.

Things like the exhaust shields, fuel tray etc can easily be refurbed and look as good as new if you spend the time doing it. Example of my fuel tank cover I've just finished. Took about 6-8 hours of grinding, sanding, sealing, painting etc but really pleased and like new. It was mainly surface rust. Coated in Zinc 182 before a coat of high quality oven primer and then a coat of manifold metallic black (grey) built to withstand temps of 900 degrees. I then applied about 3 coats of industrial lacquer to hopefully prevent major chipping.

Not that it will ever get anywhere near that hot but I know it'll last. :) A few small imprecations remaining but nothing major so I'm happy.

Big Mark - can you let me know who does your powercoating work she complete please? James mentioned you used someone local and I'm hoping to get mine done when all the rear arms are replace. Look forward to seeing your build in progress to :)

The whole of underneath your car looks as clean as a whistle not just the subframes! :)

Fingers crossed I may be onto a mint untouched rear subframe I will update if the deal comes off!
