SimonB
Since I'm going to replace my RPS flywheel with a standard one I thought I'd see what state my original one that was taken out to fit the RPS was like. The good book says you should turn it both ways and the difference should be 105mm, any more and it's scrap. This is pretty difficult to do without it being bolted to the engine, but I had a go and mine moves a lot less than 105mm. So does that mean mine is no good or not? It looks OK visually. Obviously it would need refacing.
Homer
I'm pretty sure that only tests whether the flywheel damper is working within acceptable limits, it won't tell you if the flywheel surface is any good or not. The surface needs to be flat across the diameter and not have any scores (obviously!). I had a leaking rear crank seal that rotted the flywheel damper and have well over the max. allowed movement. Desperately need a new flywheel!!
Soonto_HAS_soop
Isn't the test something along the line of putting stress across 2 of the bolts with a lever of sorts and then measuring how far the external disc moves compared to the centre, anything over a certain distance means that the centre is shot. SimonB
This is taken from mkiv.com look here And the specifications are here Errr, that will be the link I posted in the first post then! I know that it's buggered if it turns MORE than the stated amount, but mine seems to turn about half that distance (although it's very hard to do off the car). Chris Wilson
If it needs refacing it's buggered anyway!
