Flan
Hey guys, ended up in a bit of a predicament after my crash at the start of November. Just came through the guy who's wall I went through is making a claim. I can't afford to lose my no claims so I'm going to speak to the owner in person. Assuming I can afford the repairs and he agrees to sort it out of insurance would anything else come of it? If it matters it was a dry stone wall and I took out about 4 meters with minimal damage to my car, wall repair estimated at around 2-300 pounds. Cheers
j_jza80
Its really up to him, and expect him to want to choose the contractor, which is unlikely to result in the cheapest job.
Flan
Well as it was 4 months ago I assume the works been done and it's common on that road, you can see previous repairs. However as I said it's estimated at 300 max which I'd be more than happy to pay, would also be much faster than insurance.
Wez
Is your insurance company already aware?
Dnk
If hes done the repair already how can he go through your insurance, does he even know who your insurance are ? You don't fix something then make a claim
samdale
Where has that estimate come from? A quick Google suggests dry stone walling costs a lot more than £50-75/m, more like £150+/m. And as above, he will be the one choosing the contractor and has no motive to shop around.
skippyboyo1
he wont change anything unless you make it worth it. let him use who he likes for the wall, you pay and also pay him for the ball ache thats what id do.
Flan
Well I have him my reg on the night as he pulled me out. Offered him my number and that but he said he doesn't need it and it's no bother. Got an estimate off a forum for rebuilding dry stone walls that are ripped down and rebuilt using existing stones at £45 per square meter, was only about 2ft high too. Also assume it's been repaired as it's a field he uses and he'd want it sealed asap although it had an electric fence that zapped me I'll offer him extra as compensation too obviously

Flan
This thread makes no sense at all. How's that? I crashed in November, asked if the guy wanted my number to get in touch and he said I don't need to. I get the car back on the road and now he's put in a claim and I'm just looking for advice. Also if you've heard from this from your insurance, it's logged against you now and your premiums will go up, regardless if he claims or not. Just leave it as it is and let him claim from your insurance. You'll have to pay for it one way or the other, and through the insurance you'll just pay for it over the next 3 years. Flan
Yeah just got an email from admiral. Now have 0 no claims but it's only went up 300 pounds which isn't so bad, was expecting worse to be honest. First time dealing with this but from what my dad's saying that should be it sorted now. As for him getting the wall fixed and putting in the claim after I don't know what's going on. May have a look into it.

Also it shouldn't go up until renewal, then shop around and get a better deal. I've just done exactly that after having a fault claim on my daily last year. Flan
Yeah that's what I'm gonna do jonny. Yeah not too bothered about renewal as by then I should hopefully be in officer training so will barely get the chance to drive the supra. Al Massey
You can contest the claim if you think it's unreasonable
Flan
You can contest the claim if you think it's unreasonable I do admit I was totally at fault, and if the money I'm paying is my excess to fix the wall then I'd say it's fair, although if he just got in touch with me instead I'd still have my 2 years no claims[emoji23]

Found out the claim was still open and harassed admiral for a week and they closed it which only increased it by £200. I shopped around and got it cheaper anyway.
