Advice : selling a car

Hi all,

Just a quick question.

I have a car for sale and want to sell it out the country. Someone from Belgium is interested and is making there way down over the weekend with a trailer.

How does it work with selling the car?

Do I still need to send the log book off?

What are the potential issues that could be faced at the border for the buyer?

The car is a damaged s2000 which starts and drives.

Thanks in advance.

Azam

You have to fill out section 11 of the v5 which is notification of permanent export, then send that off. That should be it I believe

Would you know if this needs to be filled out and sent of to be processed before the car is taken?

No should be fine mate as long as the buyer signs it let him go. Just read the back of the section to be clear.

You then give the buyer the rest of the V5 as far as I'm aware. I think he needs that to get it out of the country.

I have just sold a car at work to a guy from Ireland, the handover is on Saturday. If you can wait till after that I will know exactly what to do as I will have done it all myself lol.

I will give DVLA a call today and see what parts of the log book I give to the new owner he is driving down from Belgium and should be with me by 7am on a Saturday morning so I think I will have the sale done before you. So I could possibly let you know how it goes.

I have sold my motorbike abroad last summer. New owner must have V5C to register it in his country, like turbo-V8-turbos said you need to send notification of permanent export to DVLA and thats it. It depends of country but in some places local dvla will ask new owner for "selling agreement" simple note made on paper with info that you are seling the car to him and now he is the new owner of the car, with date and details of the car. Details I mean like registration number, Make and model and date when he bought it from you.
