Richie_k83
Hey all, Just wondered if anyone has a reccomendation for a performance Autobox fluid? The reason being is that I will occasionally be drifting the car and also attending some track days, so other than a decent size Transmission Oil Cooler, is there any oil folks would suggest? or is the Toyota the best available? Glanza_Mike
I just used a fresh bottle of Toyota stuff and a bottle of stop slip, recommended by David P.
evinX
As DavidPs mentioned hot fluid kills gearboxes, so fitting a sump of a A650e gives you more capacity = cooler fluid. In my opinion would be a good step for drifting.

Just because there's more of it doesn't mean it runs cooler. only thing what can make the oil cooler is more cooling radiators etc.

Richie_k83
I just used a fresh bottle of Toyota stuff and a bottle of stop slip, recommended by David P. Not sure about the additives, my primary concern is the heat. I'm running a larger cooler, but want to be extra safe with an oil that can cope
Chris Wilson
I would run standard branded fluids and a cooler WITH A THERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED BYPASS! Too cold is just as bad as too hot, and in normal driving a large cooler with no `stat WILL keep the fluid too cold. Slippage in the TC and on the friction faces of brake bands and clutches is what causes heat. A higher stall converter adds a LOT more heat. US taxis came with upgraded auto boxes with higher line pressures, they forfeited ultra smooth changes for harsh ones and gained thousands and thousands more miles life from their auto boxes due to less slippage. Soft changes are akin to slipping the clutch on a manual transmission car. More heat and wear.

Any idea why Toyota stuff would be better than the Royal Purple fluid? or is it just a pointless spend?
mellonman
I asked this question not so long ago with our oil guru and put in REDLINE 4D, experience stuff though http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?56684-FAQ-Oil-Fluid-Interval-Capacity-Steering-Brake-Coolant-Diff-Engine/page20
HELLBOY666
Every company who has a machine with a name wants you to think you have to go back because it's what they recommend.... so end result they make even more money from you!!! I see this everyday with the machinery I do hydraulics on, everyone has the same thought instantly that they must use specific oils from the company who the product is bought it from not aftermarket oils, even though if you read the manual and ask for a description from the company of the oil they specify it's actually got a hidden part number or code that corresponds with another cheaper oil.....so actually you can buy better oils for cheaper if you do a little research. ☺
