Exhausts..... for a change ! !

Steve W

Recommended Posts

Right, we haven't talked about exhausts for AGES ! !:p

I think I've narrowed it down to Hiper or NUR-spec ? ?

[keeping me' Mongoose cat-pipe in place]

The Hiper is supposed to be 'slightly' louder but not a lot in it ?

The Hiper is St/St silencer but M/St pipework ?

What is the NUR-spec material ?

Both about the same 'LACK' of ground clearance ?

Whif/TorqueIC both saying ~£500 for Hiper ~£630 for NUR . .

typical prices I presume (supplied obviously) ?

ANY OTHER OPINIONS/ PROBLEMS ? ?:conf: /:sly:

AFAIK the NurSpec is a better quality item.

BUT...Brian Duff got his made out of stainless all the way from decat pipe for £350 ish. inc a back box.

If you can be arsed there are better quality/VFM options.

By all accounts Brian's pipe work cost only ~£60 and the back box was the rest of the cost!

I have another hole in my SuperDrager's pipework, I think I'm going to investigate getting new pipework welded to the backbox which is still in good condition. £60 and it will be like having a new zaust! :D

IMO the Hiper is slightly louder and looks a little better at the rear, that's why I have one  But, the Nur does sound good and is full S/S all the way. I guess, not so much in your face as the Hiper.

I have not had any clearance problems but, I do have a stock suspension.

Not much in it, in my view.

I did get a very good price from CW for my Hiper.

If you want to know how I felt following the upgrade see here:

NICE 'reporting' Pete ! !

Like the photos too - just what I wanted (could do with same for

NUR to see difference).

Did you get the removable baffle for the silencer ? ?

(I may need that as I do early morning starts:( )

How much bought/fitted (PM if you like !) ? ?

Steve,

I can not remember the price......it was good though!

I went out with Mark Ayling before I made my mind up and we tested the Hiper with and without the baffle.

I did not want to by a Hiper if it was TOO loud and I could not live with it.

I know that Mark has never used the baffle and I did not buy one.....didn't need one :flame Dev

No complaints from my neighbours but, I do not take the pi$$ on my own close.

My opinion = get the NUR spec.

Stunningly well made.

Stainless steel.

Has a removable baffle which you may be very very grateful for because you may well find the Hiper just too loud all the time. With the Cats out the Hiper is really very loud and you can't quieten it down again unlike the NUR spec which takes 30 seconds to make more civilised by putting the baffle back in.

That flexibility wins it for me.

Steve, I had the same problem last week (couldnt decide), I went down to Justine at Torque IC and he showed me both. There is no competition IMO, the NUR spec is the one to go for, the quality alone blows the Hiper out of the water, plus the removable baffle lets you decide if you want to be full on noise wise.

The sound from the NUR spec is gorgeous as is the veiw from the rear, which is what most people will see......:flame Dev

I would recommend you go see Justine at Torque IC as he even washed the car whilst fitting the exhaust (what service) ,,,LOL

:D

NUR spec for me too

had a hks drager on old gto tt car so fancied a change of make. the full stainless steel what i wanted most. was dissapointed with sound on way home driving with baffle in it was just a little louder than stock. had both cats in. made me smile when i took baffle out and started it up

a nice deep rumble sound and with no cats in and cams it sounds like a tug boat in a good way

not bad on price. bet a stock exhaust from toyota will be expensive.

it looks well too

THAT's what I really want.... to see 'em both up close...

I've got all the piccies and everything but would like to SEE 'em

both.

I asked Nathan (TDi) on another thread, if they had 'em both but

got no reply..... 'cos they're only just down the road..

I might contact Justin and see if he's got 'em both in ?

[the only thing that's a shame is when I look at both the rear pics

of the NUR and Hiper and see the way they both droop down just

in front of the rear tyres:( I'm gonna' go and take a pic of me'

Mongie from exactly the same angle this morning to compare - if

they're similar-ish then it's TIME TO BUY - mine just NEVER grounds

on ANY speed bumps ? ! ? - I'd hate to not be able to go to Tescos

:p ]

WELL, I'm not sure what's going on now ? ! ?

Just went out and took some pics of me' MONGIE....

It DOESN'T hang down like the NUR or Hiper by the rear tyres

HOWEVER, it looks bloody low along the rest of it ? ?

I SWEAR, it has NEVER grounded out on any speed humps - and

I've been over some pretty bad ones ! !

I've got standard susp' but even so !

TAKING THE PI**.... PETE.... any chance of any MORE pics of yours

along the main length (oooooh errrrrrr) ? ?

and, anyone with a NUR ? - the same question/favour ?

ps. the N/S/Rear tyre only LOOKS bald on the inner edge...:p

It's an optical dillusion:D

(and, before anyone says "CAMBER", "TOE IN/OUT/UP/DOWN" etc.

it was like that when I got them with the wheels - just can't bring

meself to throw it away 'cos the resdt of the tread and other rear

are really good !)

I just wanted to see if they're 1,2 INCHES higher/lower...

I WAS pretty much resigned to the fact that any louder/bigger

bore pipe was gonna' hang lower.....

but having just seen MINE, now I'm not so sure ?

BUT, if not, why does everyone moan about speed-bumps ?

I really don't even have to think about them (though I've NEVER

gone over them fast anyway in ANY car - we do so many ball-joints

/suspension repairs at work it persuades you otherwise!!

I don't suppose Matt does/keeps 'zorsts ?

He's mainly Audio, isn't he ?

(might be down there this afternoon - want him to see if he thinks

my Soop is "OK" in steer/susp/ etc - I THINK it IS but wouldn't

hurt to get an 'expert' opinion...... NO ROUNDABOUTS THOUGH !)

Where was Justin's place (I know I went there, but forgotten now!:stupid: )

Guest Martin F

Steve as Em said you're more than welcome to come and see my Nur spec over the weekend.

But just to add to the thing about grounding out, believe it or not when mine grounds out it's not the Nur spec but the CAT removal pipe at the front. My car is lowered on Eibach's and Bilsteins though.

Also my Nur spec is quiet unique in that i don't have a middle box only a rear one.

IMO workmanship on the Nur spec is a lot higher than the Hipe, have not heard of anybody having problems with Nur's failing at all.
