mwilkinson
Update time. So I bought some satin black paint and have had a go at painting the button with the mask Mike made for me. The hardest part was making sure the mask was on in the correct location. I ended up having to draw reference marks in the masking tape to align things. Once the mask was on the button I gave it a couple of coats of paint. A single coat looked far too thin and light would undoubtedly bleed through. I'm uncertain at this stage if even the two coats will suffice. Fingers crossed. I took the advice ref removing the mask whilst the paint was still tacky and I'm glad I did. It was incredibly delicate work. I'm generally happy with the result, although there was a slight variation in one of the mask lines (top). I may have to see if this can be touched up. If not I will sand it back and do it again. I also need to apply some lacquer to seal the button and make it more durable. I'll update once I've put the lacquer on and got the button reassembled and illuminated.
j_jza80
That looks fantastic you'll be surprised just how well the satin paint matches the other dash buttons. Top job

mwilkinson
Would you be able to make a rear fog switch ? /QUOTE] I'd not be interested in doing this for others. It's quite an involved process, nor do I have the time to commit to such work for others. The other issue would be obtainibg a suitable switch to use. The switch I'm using wouldn't be ideal for a fog light switch as it is a momentary push type button. The factory fog light switch isn't. So not only would you need a suitable factory alternative switch but also some electrical solution as to how the button would operate. The electrics would be quite simple, but would just be another thing.
