Shane
Just a heads up for those of you who enjoy Discovery channels, (thinking Turbo here) via Sky. Sky and Discovery have had a falling out and have now said they will pull the whole bouquet from Sky at the end of the month unless they can resolve the differences. Sky are currently giving them the finger and there is a stand off, although I guess there is a chance it will be resolved but looking less likely now. Digsy
Does Discovery actually screen proper documentaries any more or is it now completely fly-on-the-wall, American family business arguments docu-soaps?
Shane
Does Discovery actually screen proper documentaries any more or is it now completely fly-on-the-wall, American family business arguments docu-soaps? Well that probably sums up what a huge proportion of their content is and maybe part of Sky's reason for not meeting Discovery's financial demands. However they do broadcast some really popular stuff, WD, Fast and loud, Ed Stafford, Idris Elba series looks to be popular too, so I guess the decision will upset a considerable amount of Sky subscribers who aren't interested in sport or movies. Interesting that Sky paid 83% more last year to get the football rights. Guess they need to claw it back elsewhere now. Sky have released a statement now and their website is now stating that Discovery channels may not be available as of the Feb 1st. http://uk.businessinsider.com/discovery-in-extraordinary-row-with-sky-2017-1 https://www.sky.com/help/articles/changes-to-sky-channels?DCMP=snt-skycom:ec_channel_changes
Tricky-Ricky
I watch quite a few of the discovery channels, and no its not all fly on the wall stuff, i am pretty pissed off as i am not yet a year into a sky Q contract,, not that it will stop me should i decide i want to leave, from the responses i have seen sky are going to loose a lot of customers over this, stupid move just to try and make more money, and its going to backfire on them big time. Mk4Gaz
So, if this does happen, do we have any idea who will take discovery over?
berg
Discovery is its own platform, it will carry on and still be accessed by other providers like Virgin Media etc you just wont find it on Sky There are a few other channels owned by Discovery Platform like Eurosport 1 & 2 which will also disappear I work for Sky and it was confirmed this morning the channels will be pulled from Feb 1st Shame really, Sky may lose alot of customers over it, but at the same time Discovery Platform may struggle to fund its shows from here on, Wheeler dealers may be going back to its £1000 budget lol
Shane
A bit more info http://advanced-television.com/2017/01/26/discoverysky-carriage-deal-impasse/ Tricky, the Skyq contract is worded differently to the previous one most HD customers have. In view of these changes proposed, you may have a way out. I can PM you some info tomorrow if you like. Berg, who do you work for out of interest? I too work in the broadcast side of the comms industry

I too work in the broadcast side of the comms industry Thanks Shane, i am aware of the difference in the Q contract, but believe me if i do decide to knock sky on the head, i am not worried about their contract, i will just tell them to take me to court if they don't like it, i suspect that a lot of others will di the same, it certainly wont be the first or the last time i tell a company that's taking the piss to do this....and its never happened yet. If we had the US mentality sky would have a class action on their hands by now.
Al Massey
So if Discovery demanded even more money and Sky said no, does that mean my subscription will go down? I don't even watch half the channels that I'm forced to pay for because of the stupid bundles they now do. Tempted to get rid and get the sat tech boxes and illegally watch Sky
JasonR24
I don't get how sky is still in business, why people pay to watch adverts is mental. If you pay a subscription there shouldn't be adverts.
blythmrk
Simple spend more time in the garage with the other woman and don't watch TV! I cancelled my Sky years ago and really don't miss it we still buy DVDs from the shops too at least you physically own something then! Hitbox Junkie
You should be able to cancel contracts early if they do leave smy as they are no longer prvoiding the service you signed up for?? Either way I watch all my stuff on kodi as it's free
mwilkinson
I will definitely be calling them to renegotiate a contract at the very least. I enjoy a few of the discovery channel programmes and would think twice about continuing with sky if they lost these.
Shane
I work in home service, currently special heights/ business, heading toward my goal of the VIP team! That's interesting, I do a bit of that myself I deal with the VIP team pretty much on a daily basis, all seem to be nice people too. Good luck. Anyhow back on topic So if Discovery demanded even more money and Sky said no, does that mean my subscription will go down? I don't even watch half the channels that I'm forced to pay for because of the stupid bundles they now do. Tempted to get rid and get the sat tech boxes and illegally watch Sky Al, Search openbox V8 Still not going to get you Discovery though if this does happen, hopefully its a stand off and one party will see sense. You should be able to cancel contracts early if they do leave smy as they are no longer prvoiding the service you signed up for?? Either way I watch all my stuff on kodi as it's free Nah, clearly states in the contracts that they can change the line up as they please, although the newer Q contracts are worded slightly different which may be an advantage to some who want to cancel whilst in the subsidy term of the contract. kitch79
Well I've just been on the phone to sky for 30min, the guy told me when asked, that my subscription fee will NOT be reduced if/when discovery goes next week. I basically told the hardly speaking English idiot that sky are basically taking the piss then as it's been a channel in a package I've paid for for 10 years! I then asked for someone in the cancelling department who could understand me as this bloke said 3 times "I'm sorry I don't understand what your asking" 2nd guy claims that it's not definite yet, it 'could' go off on 1st, then might get resolved and come back soon after. Now, I choose today to call as I had sky Q installed 13 days ago and had heard the cooling off period was 14 days, turns out its 31 [emoji1360] so they've got till 14th Feb to sort it or I'm off! (The first guy said it was 14 days from when I ordered it! December, which I told him how the hell can I have a cool off period which runs out before I've even had it installed. F'in clueless)
