kevin smith
Hi i have had my NA auto serviced (everything done) but the tick over just will not settle, one minute it sits right and another time it drops lower. the only thing i have changed is i took off the second cat, and changed the ECU still (standard). any ideas. Thanks.
Chris Wilson
You need to probe the idle control solenoid with a a scope and see if it is receiving signals from the ECU. If it is and not responding you can try cleaning it, if not renew it. There are many other issues that can affect the idle stability though, but that's where i would start if nothing was visually amiss.
evinX
Throttle body? When its revving high. Hit the throttle body with the end of a screw driver. If it returns to normal. The shaft is worn.
Scooter
Did they do the plugs? There are a fair few vacuum pipes around the throttle body (that need to be ro ved to do the plugs) and one of these might have been left off.
AndyJax
I fitted one of those fandangled earthing kits which despite what some people say did actually steady the idle.

kevin smith
Thanks it is intermittent, in gear it sits at about 8000rpm and then it will drop a bit ?7000 rpm and then it will rise to about 10000 rpm and so on, and if you pull away a bit quick there is a flat spot and then it's off you go. I am no mechanic so am fishing around in the dark. Yes the plugs were all changed so i will have a look to see if i can see if any vac pipes are off. Many thanks for all advice.
