NA-T what ECU? Suggestions please...

Evening all,

So I've been NA-T since 2006 and recently re-built the engine and now running the following:

  • TT Rods and Pistons
  • Uprated bearings
  • ARP bolts throughout
  • NA Head Gasket
  • Stock Cams
  • Stock Dizzy and Leads
  • Borg warner s300 turbo
  • 44mm Tial wastegate
  • FFIM
  • 3" exhaust system
  • 3" intercollegiate piping
  • Emanage Blue Piggy back
  • 600cc injectors (which I can upgrade)
  • R154 and Spec clutch

Currently mapped to 0.9bar at 515hp and 405lb torque.

Now my question is I'd like to be at 600hp and the car will easily do this but the Emanage blue is limiting me as I can't control the timing enough. What would people suggest I go with either piggyback or standalone for the next ECU choice??

Any help would be great!!

Thanks, Steve

Don't go piggyback, you will need a standalone.

Aem v2, Aem Infinity, Link Storm, Link Fury, Syvecs, Haltech P2000, Megasquirt 3...just some of the name of commonly found ECU's for Supra's.

Most importantly though, find a tuner who is specialized in one of the above first and speak with them ahead of time; so when you get the ECU installed there will be someone who knows how to map it.

Cheers I'm already piggy and the car runs great I just want more power. A friend suggested Haltech but I don't know much about them. I hear great things about the AEM also....

Thanks I'll speak to my mapper

Piggyback's are old school. We are in 2017 for god sake. Why anyone would want an emanage over an entry level modern standalone really surprises me.

If your built engine means anything to you, then get a standalone. Engine protection strategies were developed for a reason.

Be a good idea to upgrade the ignition system before you go for more power, this will provide a better spark and allow the fine control that will be required.

T.T. oil-pump with an N/A pressure relief valve spring in it and you can then use T.T. crank sensor and for the cam signal swap that nasty distributor for an MA70 CPS, you'll have more room for turbo goodness and can treat it to a set of coil packs.

If you prefer to spend money you could use a new N/A VVTi oil pump.

Then make your decision about the ECU.

P.S. do you know the exact compression ratio you have with that T.T. piston N/A gasket combo, I guesstimate it at around 9.0:1, yet would like to know the real figure? Thank you.

P.P.S. Maybe there's some coil packs still available amongst this little lot?

P.P.P.S. How are you doing on those 40 profile tyres?

Hi David,

Tyres are ok. once worn i'll go wider and see how that is, I've not driven the car much over winter...

I've already spoken to a few people about the parts I need. Seems the MA-70 CPS is the hard part to find so looking for that first. Spot on with the Compression.

I can fully recommend the AEM. No issues here after 2 years of daily use

Cheers mate looks like a good option to me...

Best to ask your mapper what he can work on. Would be a bit of a kick in the nads to spend 4 figures on an ECU and then the mapper turn around and say he can't map it

Spoken to them and they are happy with AEM or Haltech but I know little about them.

We're fitting more and more of the Link ecu's on the NA-T conversions we do now, highly recommended. Its obviously more cost than a Greddy Emanage but a million times better in every way.

I'm just about to fit the first Link Kurofone ecu on an auto NA-T car which piggybacks keeping the stock ecu controlling the autobox, a bit like the HKS FCON does, so full control over everything else apart from the gearbox.

I'll update when we get it all working soon....

Sounds good Paul, keep me posted! I am thinking the AEM route at present

Would it be worth me upgrading my greddy emu as I'm looking to upgrade my turbo this year and looking circa 600+ if possible

:yeahthat:

Upgrading the ECU before upgrading the ignition-timing and spark is a silly idea and most probably a complete waste of time and your money.

Depends if he ACTUALLY NEEDS to upgrade the ignition timing and spark.

Mines running more than adequately on the stock dizzy.

It is a well known fact that distributor controlled ignition-timing and spark can cause all sorts of problems North of 500bhp with N/A-T.

Why take the risk?

I've never seen any proof of this.

Can you link any?

Please see my graph below:

Car has now covered near on 10k miles converted, is used in all weathers and conditions.

Has seen track use, driven around Europe and I've never had an issue.

I have given proven advice learned from others before on here, I'm not wasting my time looking for this sound advice others have posted.

If your advice is to spend money that probably will have to be spent again, so be it.

Fair enough, I too am also giving sound advice - but based on personal experience, not what the internet says so.

Now that you have agreed to disagree, could you please post back up Delboy52's positive thread about me, as you have agreed to do with several Club members?

I didn't agree to post it back up, I agreed to review it in my spare time. I would suggest you reread my last response to your PM.

It also would need a red to repost the thread as I do not have the correct permissions.

I would also appreciate you not ushering this thread to descend to pandemonium, as with others. If you have an issue you can PM me or favourably, a red.
