matts-supra
hello first off its a 94 jspec 2jzge auto converted to manual r154 engine ran and sounded fine when i got the car, but had to remove engine to repair damage to front of car. as it was out i stripped it down cleaned everything and fitted a tt gasket ready for na-t setup. rebuilt fitted gearbox and fitted back into car. engine turns over but doesn't start. i tested the compression all cylinders are around 150 psi which from what ive read online is correct for my setup with the tt gasket i then tested the injectors all at 13ohm resistance removed them and cleaned them. i then tested the coil resistance was out side the manuals limits so i brought a new one no difference, i took apart the distributor the arm was worn and all the contacts as well i had a spare distributor on another engine so fitted that. engine tried to start or at least seemed like it took that distributor apart and again the arm in that one was worn as well. decided to buy a new cap and arm. seems to try to start occasionally but then will turn over fast then struggle then fire but die straight away. i tested the resistance of all the coil leads all ok. removed the new ngk Iridium #7 i had fitted and put in some used ngk r plugs. still no better. ive checked all earth points and even had jumper lead on engine to battery. there's no error codes being shown. im running out of things to check any help would be greatly appreciated
ibby
Check.. Cam, crankshaft, tps sensors. Make sure they plugged in and tested.
matts-supra
the cam sensor is part of the distributor i believe and as ive tried 2 difference ones don't think its that. i don't believe the na has a crank sensor or i haven't found one if it does. the tps is connected i do have a spare i could try but would that stop the engine from starting if it was faulty. thanks
Swampy442
Do you have fuel? have you done the neutral start with mod?
matts-supra
yeah i can hear the pump prime and when i took the plugs out they were all wet that lead me to believe that i had fuel but no spark or a weak one. i even put some more 99 oct fuel in as has been sat for over a year and tank was low. and yeah ive joined the cables from the auto box. matts-supra
ok i fixed it. was probably something i should have double checked earlier. when i set the distributor up i was going on what i believed to be the timing marks. didn't realize how much it moves round when being inserted in to the head. so i just set the engine to tdc and removed the dizzy cap to see the arm almost 180 deg away from number 1 so after realigning the rotary arm and reassembling, it started first turn of the engine yay one happy man, now to put the rest of the car back together and set the timing with the gun. thanks for the input guys
