Been offered a mkiv UK 2jz manual BUT with 240k miles looking for advice

Could be a good project, as has been said, engine should last despite the high miles, as long as its been maintained/well serviced you'd have thought many of the watch items would be checked on MOT's/Services and fixed/replaced if issues arise.

 

The fact this guy has kept it running daily rather than SORN or doing short trips would probably be worse for the car, is probably a good thing. Dunk's list is comprehensive - get someone to thoroughly check out as many of those potential issues. Just because its old doesn't mean you're going to get all those issues either.

 

I saw a thread about rotting fuel lines so in a panic checked mine.. which were spotless. Judge each car individually, try not to generalise.

As good as they are even if they're looked after i think i'd also be getting a leak down test done on

the motor, that'll give you a pretty good idea on healthy the engine is.

 

Or at least a compression test
