Guest benjiboy87
Hello all My aristo is currently under construction for single turbo conversion. It has the 4 speed Tip tronic A340E at present which I want to upgrade to be able to hold the power. Has anyone done so? Also I was wandering if anyone knows if I can swap it out for the 5speed A650E? and then upgrade that? The price of manual conversion just isn't an option as its not a simple as it is on a supra. Shock!! I see there are companies in the states that do shift kits and modified valve bodies etc but don't say what power they can cope with Anyone done anything to theirs? Any help appreciated thanks
David P
Beefing up auto boxes is like Tesco's motto, "Every little helps." With shimmed actuators, new strainer, new fluid, additional oil cooling, an oil thermostat and good idea to fit the 2 litre larger A650E sump too. Your box should be fine for up to 550ftlb, or up to 600ftlb if the slam after the lag is not too fierce. For any more you'll need a box built with stronger clutch plates and/or a few billet bits. Heat is the killer, which means that it's a very very very good idea to run a fluid temp gauge. Take a look around in the Transmission Group, there's a link in my signature. A650E swap, sorting the electronics and fitting the shifter are PITA, it's doable but the Yanks don't, they do however use the larger 3rd or 4th? gear basket from that box in the 4-speed because it has an extra clutch plate. David P
Where you suggest is the best place for a temp sensor DavidP? The best advice I can give you is for you to find a sump from an A650E and fit a temp sensor into it, then when fitted to your box you will benefit from both a temp gauge and an extra 2 litres of transmission fluid capacity. Your the man! id be up for upgrading my autobox this year if theres anything i should do for long term/ better use of the box? If you like, we could shim up the actuators and fit a Suprastick & flappy-paddles, alternatively, as is often suggested, you could burn it with fire. Is it the tiptronic swampy? benjiboy87, I answered your technical questions way beyond any expectations and introduced you to the answers to any and every other question you could possibly have re. your transmission. Furthermore, to economise with your button pressing, I even sent you an invite to the Transmission Group. Regardless, you have completely ignored my beneficence and alternatively, chose to prattle off topic. Were you born ignorant, or do you practice a lot? Fear not, ignorance is trendy on here and you'll fit in well. Unless you plan to increase the power, you don't need bigger sump, coolers or thermostat and you have a new strainer in it already. Shimming the actuators would perk up the gear-changes and Suprastick would make driving it more fun.
