berg
I have a pair of battery charging posts/bulkhead connectors that im going to install at the front of the car to allow connecting my trickle charger easier as my battery is in the boot, will also help with jump starting should it be necessary Looking to install them somewhere down by the front bumper area Just wanting to know if i can connect the live post up to the starter motor and then the earth post to chassis ground? Would save me running 2 x 5m cables from the battery in the boot all the way to the posts front of the car then The charging posts in question are these https://www.mobilecentre.co.uk/images/products/Aux_Power/25RJSBMKIT02.jpg
j_jza80
Might be worth having a look at this: http://smartercharger.com/accessories/ C tek are good chargers / optimizers, and their connectors can be integrated discreetly. I know some of the big GTR tuners install these in the front grill.
pedrosixfour
To answer your question berg, yes. Running a line from the positive charging post to the starter and one from the negative post to the chassis should suffice for a trickle charger. But some of the bits that j_jza80 linked to do look to be a very tidy option as well. I might even consider something from that range for my new outboard, if I decide to hide the battery! berg
The Ctek stuff does look very good but for me i would have to replace all my existing equipment, Hmm it looks a nice tidy way of doing it I wonder how many of thier extension cables i could run before it starts to limit performance lol, I reckon its around 10m to get from the charger location to the boot The car is not kept garaged so power comes from indoors I currently have a charger set up in the shed which is only around 8ft from the front of car, with extended cables running out to the car (used this setup on my previous track car) But with the battery in the boot i have no way of getting the cables to it without leaving boot open I didnt think about winter before moving it Edited December 14, 2016 by berg (see edit history)
Mika
Maybe you just could bolt this http://smartercharger.com/accessories/#CTEK%20Comfort%20Connect comfort connect plug to your battery terminals and leave the Ctek charger inside of the boot? Just pull the cord (long enough) from the inside of your shed/ house and simply just plug it in the charger. I have had Ctek chargers over a ten years now and I think they are really good. They massively improve the lifespan of your car battery as the battery does not go flat/die. Much better than a jump start if you ask my opinion. berg
I could but the front hits the floor if i reverse on the drive or drive off forwards I decided to go for the ctek charger in the end anyway, Spoke to ctek and they say it will work ok with up to 4 of their extension cables and cause no issues with charging Ill only need 2 to set it up how i want it One permanently mounted at the front of the car somewhere, charger end in the wall where my current plugs are I can just get out the car plug it in job done
Wez
The ctek extensions are weather proof, I have a ctek battery adapter perm mounted and the cable is small enough to go through near the headlight and still shut the bonnet, the charger unit can then be mounted and powered somewhere sensible. Connecting and disconnecting is very easy as the ctek cables also come with weatherproof covers / boots
David P
If it helps Ctek make a 2.5m extention cable. http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/battery-chargers-jump-starters/ctek-2-5m-extension-cable
