TT automatic transmission identification?

Until recently, the very special TT transmission, the strongest variant of the ancient and now extinct A340E line, was only identified by the raised characters J3 on the (larger but separate) bellhousing casting. There are also several tail-shaft variants with different output flanges and couplers, but these can be swapped.

I found out, as I had Empire Performance (Deer Park, Long Island) installed my professionally rebuilt (name on request) exchange box, that there are other differences. The transmission mount (aluminum casting) already in my SC300 with the JDM-sourced Aristo JZS147 2JZ-GTE twin turbo engine & transmission had the bolt holes for the transmission main case in the wrong place. Happily, Empire's chief engineer expertly dissected, re-positioned and welded a spare mount to accurately align with the transmission.

Searching for "what happened?", I noticed many spare A340E J3 boxes in the Empire shop, and on examination all of the bell housing were marked J3 (as they should be, all were TT), but the main transmission castings also had a second, smaller 2-digit number cast in on the rear top section - and no two were alike. I found even more 2-digit numbers on the 'net.

Anyone else have this problem? Any idea what the number means?

Any input appreciated.

I suspect these numbers indicate something important about the transmission mount, but what?

I've added this puzzle to my A340E page, visit it here: http://www.victorylibrary.com/Toyota/A340E-c.htm#main
