Karl M N
As the title explains my car is shaking when I come to a stop. It's also dropping it's revs to about 600rpm. Cold starts just fine, also runs fine when moving. It's a TT auto. Only modification that's been made recently is a fmic. However this occurred before my battery died and the fmic was done while it was charging so I doubt this is contributing. The car had essentially been sitting for about a month. It did this one time before my battery died and the car was sat for two weeks after. Did t have much fuel in it, so is it possible for the fuel system to have suffered some damage due to bad fuel? I've been looking at a few possibilities for this and to be honest I just wanna know the worst case scenario in terms of cost. Thanks EDIT: just a little update. The shaking and low revving has now stopped. Car pulls just fine. Can't explain that but thanks for the responses guys. I'll no doubt be back when it starts doing it again the next time I think I've finally got everything working 100% on this thing Edited November 24, 2016 by Karl M N (see edit history)
Big Mark
By shaking do you mean a vibration so bad that the dash shakes when for example you pull up at lights in traffic? Mine did that a while back and it was the engine mounts that were on their way out.
ibby
Engine mounts... Or gearbox mount.
Mike2JZ
Any loss in performance or just the shaking?
Scooter
When you come to a stop, shift it to Park or Neutral and does the shaking go/lessen considerably? First sign of engine mounts is vibration at a stop when in 'D' or 'R'. The revs dropping though could be something completely different, from a semi seized alternator pulley, to idle control issue. IMO unless your car is a facelift you can rule out the engine mounts as being a cause, even then the vibration comes on gradually and it sounds like this is something that's happened more suddenly? rider
We experienced a problem with one of our cars recently (as in a month ago) that kept running rough or even cutting out completely and the garage we went to said they suspect a problem with water in supermarket fuels at the moment as they have seen a spate of people reporting the same problem. You might just need a full tank of non supermarket fuel and maybe throw in a cleaning additive for good measure. After 3 tank fills the car is now running fine again. brassbones
Yeah, mine was the same. New engine mounts (off Keron) fitted and it's all gone transformed the car. Mine is a 95 NA pre-facelift with the stubby mounts.
ibby
Dont vibra technologies do engine mounts for supras
Karl M N
Thanks for the quick responses as usual guys. Most of you are suggesting engine mounts/gearbox mounts which is something I suspected. I would hope it is this as I believe it's the cheapest fix if I'm not mistaken. The shaking has been a sudden change. Could someone also explain why bad mounts would affect the rpm though? As for the dash rattling, I'll have to double check when I'm home. Although now that you mention it I have heard a few vibrations here and there for a while Edited November 24, 2016 by Karl M N (see edit history)
Mike2JZ
Engine mounts aren't going to make his idle drop to 600rpm. I'll ask again. Have you experienced any loss in performance/misfiring/etc?
Karl M N
Any loss in performance or just the shaking? No loss of performance that I've noticed. However the car revving so low does make it seem a bit lumpy getting off the line. If the weather is fine later I may take the car out and pay closer attention to how its running. ibby
The engine is balanced to stop vibrations. But if one of the mounts is poor.. it will start to rock. You may see if if u idle it and pop thr bonnet and look at it wobble or see it shake on startup!
brassbones
Mounts nowt to do with idle speed. I guess that's the ECU having a senior moment. My idle sometimes wobbles around 600 and even lower when stopped. Next time I use her it can be totally fine. If persistent, an ECU reset (pull relevant fuse or neg battery lead) usually fixes it... till the next time

brassbones
Plugs? Leads? Gunk in throttle body or ICV? Also, this does mine wonders every so often ... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lucas-Oil-10003-Fuel-Treatment/dp/B000ARPVOI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479996265&sr=8-2&keywords=lucas+fuel+system+cleaner
