Gtr vs supra

There's a debate between me and my dad on supra vs gtr

 

So my dads got a stage 4.5 Lichfield GTR running around 700hp - 600lbft torque, would a supra with a similar power figure beat it, e.g. A nicely tuned 6767 precision or a borgwarner s366

LOL! no chance! the GTR has a much better read intelligent gearbox and traction control, and so can get the power down far better than any Supra could.

A modified GTR running good launch control is just brutal off the line

 

From a rolling start depending on setups they could be more evenly matched.

Depends what you mean by beat it....

 

If you mean round the twisties then no

 

If you mean on a quarter mile strip then no

 

If you mean round the nurburgring then only if Big Num is driving it

 

If you mean from a rolling start then probably not

 

If you mean miles per gallon then I have no idea but id still guess no

 

If you mean putting a bigger smile on your face then YES

With similar power levels, the supra would lose out on gearshifts if it's a manual. You would need more power to be able to pull ahead

Too many variables... Its anybodys guess, if the Supra is running some big sticky slicks up back and decent launch control, it could be possible? Although GTR's are meant to be pretty sharp off the line.

 

Rolling start, i think it would be very close either way

Hardly reasonable to compare eras, The Supra is to the GTR as a Shelby Mustang is to the Supra.

As above really, GTR would win every time because there's 20 years of tech difference. Until Toyota bring out a new supra and directly target the GTR as is competition then you have an unfair comparison

I recon supra on a roll would be a good run,

 

Higher gears probably supra due to being rwd only less power loss

 

But off the line, around the twists the gtr.

Its a fab car.

 

Come on toyota. Wheres our new supra.

GTR would slaughter, like for like, wearing equivalent tyres etc. Give the Supra something like an SRD 8 speed or Whifbitz 7 speed swap, and it would be a better fight, but still in the GTRs favour. Even a stock GTR will give small single turbo Supras a hard time.

If I remember correctly Jamie P always said the Supra would need at least 100hp more than the GTR to have any chance of competing on a rolling race.

GTR would beat a Supra in most guises if matched in power. It would also be more consistent and safer to drive.

 

I don't think that's a bad thing. As someone has already said there is over a 20 year tech difference. The GTR is a brilliant car and deserves it's place in motoring legend.

 

Whether or not the new Supra will be able to claim the same is yet to be established, but I doubt it.

Ive been side by side with a GTR on the dual carriage way near to where i live.

 

It was stock and I can tell you, that car pulls like a train!

 

My Supra is no slouch either. 6 speed, Borg Warner S300SXE twin wastegate, twin scroll single turbo setup. 660bhp at 1.7bar.

 

One day I will own a GTR, absolutely love the car haha.

To be fair my old setup was running 560flywheel power and a lad in his R35 GTR was running 600 and couldn't get away on a rolling launch from 50mph and above. The weight of his car definitely came into play. Off the line though I would of been murdered. There were multiple witnesses to this including glanza_mike

like for like on a roll, theres nothing much in it, the GTR is so fat and heavy, it has an effect. Seen Steve race Lee often enough, both around 800bhp and the Supra would win more often.

 

From a dig, no, not without radials, then yes it would be close.

We managed to hold of a gtr at Santa pod when we was running 607bhp. Although he did leave half a second later than us. Also unsure on his spec...

 

I think a similar power supra vs gtr from a 60mph roll would be a close match.

I've kicked loads of gtrs round various tracks, the best 1 was silverstone couple of years back.he had about 100 brake more than me then and I still whooped him and that was on my old engine. Its on my youtube BTW if anyone interested.

Apparently if a stock GTR were much lighter than it is, it would be slower from 0 to 60, according to some engineers. More traction I guess, maybe it's not even true but heard it said a couple of times.

 

I would think most Supra's would struggle. I would love to drive a GTR one day, never even been for a ride in one.

My Supra against a 620bhp GTR from 50-130mph consisted of the GTR going about 1-2 car lengths ahead almost immediately, but not pulling any further than that.

 

From a standing start, the same GTR ate me alive.
