stevie_b
I got my insurer's preferred glass repair company out today for a repair on my daily driver's windscreen - 2 or 3 small surface chips. Is it correct that if the chip is too shallow, it can't be filled with the resin? The excess on repairs is a lot less than that for replacements, which is my reason for asking. Pete
I think it depends how the glass has split/cracked. I was told last time I had this done it was mostly important to just get the resin to fill the hole and permeate into the whole crack to prevent it spreading. It's rarely 'invisible'. supra900bhp
As Pete has just said 99% are never invisible. Yes it dose need to of broken through the first layer of glass so the resin can bond the chip together and get a hold on to the inner plastic layer to strengthen the repair. If it has not broken through then all resins will just fall out over time due the lack of hold due to smooth screen I worked for autoglass over 10 years and not a lot changed with the repairs in that time Hope that helps
