r2ck_p Posted November 10, 2016 Share Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) Hi guys, I need to replace my rear Avon ZZ3's tyres (275/35/18) on my BPU TT Supra. I have looked through older posts but can't see any up to date tyre opinions. The tyres need to be suitable for all season road driving (no track action), good enough in wet and dry, but also not wear too quickly. The car usually does about 3-4K miles per year now. These are my options:- Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Yokohama Advan Sport V105 Pirelli PZero Dunlop SP01 Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 Continental Sport Contact 3 Mitchelin Pilot Sport 4 What is everyone else using and do you have any experience of these on the rear of your Supra? Opinions and feedback welcome. Also what load rating is everyone using on the rear? Scooter Posted November 10, 2016 Share Posted November 10, 2016 I would say none of them are rubbish, if you don't get exact feedback I'd do research on their wet weather performance as for me that is what can make you regret the choice. I'm interested as I've got Vredestein Sessanta's on mine (great in the wet) currently but know they are now discontinued. I've experience of Continental Sport contact 2's and they were good but then I know model changes can mean a big performance change so be careful unless someone recommends the exact same model. I have just had some Avon ZZ5's fitted to the fronts this morning which is when I noticed the rears being extremely low. The obvious choice would be to get ZZ5's on the rear to, but they don't make them in the size I need. evinX Posted November 10, 2016 Share Posted November 10, 2016 I had Continental sport contacts on the rears when i got mine, brilliant tyres. Never let go once on me even in the rain and ice. Ill be going for the sport contact 5s all round when i need to change. Dont seem to last very long but still worth it just for the control they give. Currently on good years on the fronts, and achilles rears, achilles i got were remoulds of hankooks. They do the Ultrac Vorti in the size, but not the Sessantas. As there is so much difference between each model will give them a miss as no one has had experience of them. Seems to be mixed reviews so far, keep the feedback coming guys, would like to see if there is one off the list that has more positive reviews. Yokohama Advan Sport V105 Pirelli PZero - Not heard very good feedback of these over the years Dunlop SP01 - My Supra had Dunlops on when I first bought, they were shockingly shit. Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 - Not used them on a Supra, but a few months ago I fitted a pair to my daily, Fabia VRS, I've just changed them for something else as I didn't like them, too firm due to sidewall, and the grip wasn't that good to me. Continental Sport Contact 3 Mitchelin Pilot Sport 4 - These are the tyres that I will be fitting early next year, read and heard nothing but great things about these. They are the latest sport tyre from Michelin, and an upgrade to their Super Sports, and not an upgrade to the Pilot Sport 3. ashloys Posted November 11, 2016 Share Posted November 11, 2016 Uniroyal Rainsport 3 would be great for BPU, I'm using them on one of my cars atm and wet/dry grip is brilliant. They're also very well priced. Can't comment on most of the other tyres though as I haven't used them myself. Their one downfall is that they wear quite quickly though, although they are probably half the price of some of the others mentioned! I've got the Vorti's on the front of my Volks, they seem as good as the Sessantas but cannot comment on what the rear grip would be like. Tried most brands of tyre, still stand by the Sessantas being up there with one of the best. Surprising the Falken 453's are not too bad either for a cheap tyre. I'd then look at the GY's or Bridgestone/Yoko's next. I went with the Continental Sport Contact 3 in the end, lots of good member reviews and £160-170 per tyre fitted opposed to Mitchelin Pilot Sport 4 at £240-250 per tyre fitted.
