Neither of them are what I would call true leaders, I can't find anything in common with them or anything remotely inspiring that either has done.

They both seem to struggle to say anything that seems remotely genuine when they open their mouths, Clinton is the worst offender of this however, definition of a try hard.

I think the main problem now, evident everywhere, is that so few people get into politics because they believe in a cause. Many just seem to be careerists, who go straight into party political roles from prestigious universities, and those who do have previous non political career experience soon seem to fall into the trap of greed and/or corruption.

First thing I'd do is ban all MPs from having second jobs, and ban them from having any contact with media barons, and lobbyists from big business and banks unless in full, scrutinised public view.

And how many of these mps have added to their already considerable wealth through tax payer funded second homes? I don't see why someone on £70k a year plus needs tax payer subsidised acccomodation (and transport), especially when it directly contributes to preventing many in our society from owning their own homes.

I've always said this, hence thinking a whole new system is needed. Alternative democracy?

The system as it is, both here in the UK and US and elsewhere is broken.

I watched 'Hypernormalisation' recently (it's on BBC iPlayer) and it really hits the nail on the head in saying that the people at the top know everything is broken but absolutely no one has any idea how to fix it, so we just continue towards the abyss. (there are a few good sections explaining Syria, Russia, Trump and so on. I really really recommend it).

I don't think there is a simple or easy solution, changing a few things here and there won't work.

There's an online book here that you can read for free, by one of the founders of the 'Occupy' movement, that has some good ideas: https://georgiebc.wordpress.com/2013/05/24/binding-chaos/

But there are no easy, simple answers.

Correction. They have no desire to fix it. Why would they change a system that has the tax payer giving them an easy life? Expenses, a second, third home. There is no way they want to change this broken system and that's the problem

:yeahthat: you beat me to it, the reason it remains broken is they are all benefiting from it.

One of the reasons I dislike the EU, and no doubt many Americans feel the same about their Federal Government, is how remote it all is. Brussels / Washington have so much power over hundreds of millions of people, who are hundreds, often thousands of miles away. And their solution to every problem seems to be 'more of the same'.

No wonder the populists are heading for power all over the developed world.
