Max5437
I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on here and a fair amount of track experience (from people like me to some crazy race cars) Just seeing what people can advise/impart some knowledge really, only looking to do it for some fun at shows and the odd event days. Currently car is stock (quite a bit of replaced oem in the past few years) except: Exhaust Bucket seats Harnesses Boost controller (fitting soon) Decat (fitting soon) I'm getting: Rear ARB Coilovers Drop links Lagging chargecooler Anyways any advice is much appreciated
el_bandido
This isn't from track experience, but the biggest difference to a car set up that I've been able to find is having the right combination of good tyres and a proper geometry set up. j_jza80
I would be firing Tim at TB Developments a message, he has lots of experience with building cars to this kind of spec
grahamc
What tracks would you be attending? I would personally leave the exhaust alone, as so many tracks are now clamping down on noise, the exhaust and decat may put you over the DB limit. Bucket seats are great for stopping you from sliding around in the seat. Harnesses debatable as to whether they are helpful or dangerous in a car without a rollcage and a driver without a hans device. If you are strapped in with harnesses and you have a crash at 4-50MPH, the only thing that will be moving, is your head! So if you go for harnesses, make sure you buy a hans device to support your neck. Suspension, brakes and tyres are where its all at, but once all changed, it will take time to set it up correctly. Also, will you be using the car on the road as well? I would do the suspension bit by bit so that you dont take it too far.

I do still have a mid box in the system but the DB limit is a concern, it's going to be 3" decat to 3" mid pipe to 2.75" rear pipe I'll be sure to look at the HANS device then! Exactly the kind of thing I wouldn't have considered. Suspension wise im looking for more of a fast road set up as it'll be primarily shows it'll go on track as well as specific club events with the gt4 club Thanks all for the advice
ManwithSupra
Make sure you buy a hans device to support your neck. You will also need to have a helmet that's designed for use with a hans/fhr device otherwise a hans/fhr device will be useless. If you decide to buy second hand (I wouldn't) go with a min approval of Snell SA2005 with has the posts fitted properly (it will have a FIA8858-2010 sticker on it) or go for the newer standard Snell SAH2010 (which has just finished but still valid until 2025) or SA2015 helmet. Simply drilling holes into a motocross helmet and putting hans anchors in with m6 nuts will not be useful in the slightest (Yes I have seen that). It may be worth knowing that if you plan to use a hans/fhr device that your harness should not be more than 20° angled downwards behind your seat otherwise it WILL NOT WORK so if you don't have a rollcage with a integrated harness bar then simply tethering the shoulder harnesses to a seat belt anchor point would be pointless. That said.. if you don't have a roll cage then fitting something like a sparco a harness bar is even worse.
Max5437
Ah right okay, that's good to know, would probably be excessive for what I would be using the car for TBH
bignum
Just to add, track sessions on show days are the worst time to be on a track, people are all over the place like a jumble sale.
berg
Definately agree with above Ive done one session at a car show and never again, the driving talent and setup is poor Proper track days with strict rules make a much better day
Max5437
See this has always been my concern, although I'd be one of them, anyone can have a go so I'm worried about someone driving into me lol have been talking to a few mates looking at more proper track days now which is ideal. Sadly the next one at Lydden hill I'm working typically
