Mike2JZ
The loudness is bareable depending on how much you truely love how the 2J sounds. But the drone will get you after 6 months. Finding a 2.5'' system can be troublesome, but if you run 3'', just having the first cat in makes a world of difference. I found mine a lot more enjoyable to drive when I went from full 3'' straight through, to having 3'' with a first cat.
David P
How could it be more troublesome to have it made from 2.5" instead of 3"? Edit: I misread the post, thought the O.P. was having one made. Edited November 9, 2016 by David P (see edit history)
Wonga Spar
Not going to say told you so you do realise how loud double decat will be on a na.... While I'd heard about how loud an NA with double decats could be, I was informed a small (2.5") custom system with double decat could have the noise managed, and that a 3" system on an NA would cause back-pressure. If this isn't the case I might have to get them on the phone ASAP as noise limiting was a major selling point of a custom exhaust. However there's a good probability this will have a GTE thrown at it next year so if people reckon I'd be better getting a single-cat 3" system that won't need replacing if it gets swapped, feel free to point me in a smarter direction. If a 2.5" decat wouldn't be too restrictive on a TT then I won't worry too much about it until it's happened. David P
A 2 box 2.5" system will be sweet with no cats and you'll have no trouble selling it on to then fund a common or garden 1 box 3" jobbie.

It's going to be a single pipe, is that going to give the neighbours hell? New update, the manifold is being replaced too. If somebody had to suggest an optimal exhaust setup with the potential for a TT swap in the future, with noise levels in mind, what would it involve? So far I think 2.5 decat might be the best option, but I'm an idiot at the best of times. Any suggestions on manifolds while they're swapping it out? Maybe delete heat-shield delete and get a nice-n'-pretty manifold? Edited November 9, 2016 by Wonga Spar (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
Get the ignition timing checked, if it is detonation or pinking it could do very costly damage, very quickly. Check the cam timing too. You need someone familiar with what pinking and detonation sound like to drive it. Carefully....

I had a 3.5" exhaust before with first decat and even that was offensively loud, so complete decat with anything bigger than a 2.5" would be a no no I'd say. Oddly enough you do need a little restriction in there too, mine felt slower with the dustbin on the back. In terms of a pretty first manifold you need to heat wrap them really so appearance doesn't come into it. Mine gets mega hot even after being wrapped. Without wrap it would be like the surface of the sun.
