and1c
Firstly I'm posting this off mobile in case grammar etc is a tad messy.! I'm putting the car back together after a major refurb session , engine out , Titan box , hi stall, new braided turbo oil drain and multiple other hoses and fittings and loads of other stuff. Anyway my aircon pump seems to be a tad rough when spun at the pulley and I decided to remove it and put a brace on and shorter belt (but keep the parts in case I want to put a new pump back in the event I want aircon) I can't for the life of me see where the ps pump is meant to be supported apart from using the brace kit I bought which has a spacer and strut, that clearly only secures one side. I don't want to have to refit the aircon pump at this stage. If I pivot the ps pump to fix to the only nearby block bracket the pulley is too close to the tensioner. Anywhere else and the unchanged ps reservoir hose won't stretch. Am I missing a bracket here??? Also does anyone know where I can get a new ac pump in case I need it or maybe a recon place ? Thanks
Mike2JZ
Take a look at this diagram. http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/jp/1996/supra/jza80-alfvz/4_291130_006_/powertrain-chassis/4502_vane-pump-reservoir-power-steering You need the PS pump bracket before you can attach it to it's mount mounts and connect the supporting brace from the AC delete kit. and1c
Cheers mate, I thought something was missing! For some reason I thought that was redundant and the delete kit was missing something. Will do it tonight and update. Cheers
Chris Wilson
I have seen several ruined engine blocks and many ruined PAS pumps where people have deleted the whole A/C pump and left the PAS pump hanging off one poor little boss cast into the engine block, and flexing about to the detriment of the pump's bearings and the drive belt.. and1c
I have seen several ruined engine blocks and many ruined PAS pumps where people have deleted the whole A/C pump and left the PAS pump hanging off one poor little boss cast into the engine block, and flexing about to the detriment of the pump's bearings and the drive belt.. HI Chris. Thanks for the input! Funny you mention this as I am not overly happy with the solution bracket at all and have been looking at that lug on the block with some concern in the event that it broke.. Even with the PS bracket bolts it doesn't seem to offer anything like the same lateral support as the aircon pump bracket. On that note.... I will probably have to try and source a new aircon pump!!!! update// I will see if I can replace the bearing on this one. As it works fine but seems a little rough. Anyone know what bearing it is? Chris Wilson
I haven't time to go into depth, nor have I read the earlier link to an aricle on how to remove the A/C pump, but I would disassemble the pump and use the front of its casting as the support bracket. The front bearing should allow the pulley to spin pretty freely by finger rotation, with minimal drag. The pulley should only attempt to drive the pump when 12 Volts is applied to energise the electromagnetic clutch.

Will probably end up keeping aircon at this rate! - - - Updated - - - pumps on the bench anyway Chris. Thanks for the heads up, wont be doing the AC delete anymore!!! berg
As above most people just use the front off the a/c pump itself, no issues with the steering pump mounting then
and1c
Cheers Berg. Will look into what that involves. Not had chance to strip the pump yet. Can it be done without damaging the pump?
xm 80
Sure it's fairly easy the only thing u need is a puller for the clutch plate, not sure if u can do it without one. I did this a couple of months ago with my spare AC compressor....luckily for me the clutch plate was already off.
and1c
Well I stripped the pump down last night, all is good with the clutch and pump so I replaced the bearing for the pulley (£23) as the old one had some play in it and I think was the cause of the noise issue. For reference the original aircon pulley bearing is - Nachi (manufacturer) 30BGS10DST2 The bearing specialists said it wasnt listed as that so wanted measurements. They are Inner Diam - 30mm Outer Diam - 52mm Width - 22mm The part number that superceeds it is NACHI 30BG5222-2DSE The original part is showing as available from France but I didnt want to wait. So the pump is now back on and I am not removing aircon at this time seeing as its like a new pump so very little resistance in the scheme of things. - - - Updated - - - thanks for the input all Edited October 18, 2016 by and1c (see edit history)
