Wordy Posted October 8, 2016 Share Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) Hi, I'm, a newbie, Just joined having purchased a 1993 vin # 800004015 U.K Spec Supra to go with my U.K. Spec 1995 Celica GT-Four, both will be shown at Car shows as I am a member of Surrey Classic Vehicle Club. It is unmolested, it is U.K. sold, it wasn't cheap! it's an investment! which is the reason I got it, And! I love it. All seems fine on the Supra except the Clock which shows the time ok but also has a button to display the outside air temperature, but it does not display change to temp from time. This version of the clock is not provided on J Spec cars just unique (I believe) to U.K. Specs and some Europe specs perhaps. p/n 83910-14410. (J-Spec and US specs are p/n 83910-14400). So, I did an A/C Amplifier diagnostic test and it flew through without any issues, suggesting that the clock itself is faulty, not the temp sender unit behind the dash nor the one down the front of the car, since these are used in the A/C Amp test as references for the A/C system. Has anyone had any experience with this fault, any thing I might try before ripping the dash out to see and test the clock on the bench? Scooter Posted October 8, 2016 Share Posted October 8, 2016 Congrats on the purchase, I don't remember reading about such an issue but there are so few uk cars/members it would have to happen to most to be common knowledge! I'll have a search for you though. The dash pieces are easy to remove once the top piece is unscrewed though so getting it out won't be too hard. There was a boost gauge installed in the place of the stock clock and he preferred the stock clock back to the car. After he changed the clock back to the stock clock location the clock worked perfectly fine but the temperature display did not show anything. Display was like it would have been switched off. He tried two another clocks too, but in this case the actual fault was in the car AC ecu. With new AC ecu installed clock/temperature meter has been worked fine. He`s car is LHD but the replacement AC ecu was from the Jdm RHD Supra. The most odd thing in this case was that the AC of the car worked perfectly fine with the old AC ecu. Interesting info guys, yes £400 if you can find one that is, but maybe it is the AC Amplifier, considerably more available and common across all Supra Mark 4 's Luckily, I have a complete set of manuals from 1993 (printed and book binded) so I will dismantle the clock/temp and test the elements and see why the little button above the clock window doesn't toggle to Temperature, pressing my button does nothing, the time remains in the window. Anyway I love these little electrical challenges. Thanks for all your messages (so far) keep them coming.
